Brushland is a biome added by Terralith. It is a hot, dry biome with no precipitation, decorated with boulders, shrubs, tall grass and dead bushes. In Fear Nightfall it covers about 1.4% of the land surface, and its monster table is long, so a player crossing it at night will meet a wide mix of vanilla mobs and horror mobs from Born in Chaos and other mods.

Description

Terralith tags Brushland as a plains biome and as hot overworld terrain. Its climate values are a temperature of 1.2 and a downfall of 0.2, and it never rains or snows, so the biome has no weather-based effects.

The ground cover is built from several Terralith patch features. Short grass is the most common plant, mixed with ferns, dead bushes, moss carpet, azaleas and a few tall grass plants. Tall grass also grows in dense patches. Bushes are chosen at random from a set of small and medium shrubs, most of them steppe-style medium bushes. Oak trees are rare, with a 1% chance per bush roll. Boulders are stone formations placed where grass sits over dirt.

The biome's colours are set in its effects. Fog is pale blue (#cde6ff), the sky is light blue (#b1d1ff), and water is deep blue (#3f76e4), with a separate underwater fog colour. The ambient cave sound plays on a 6000-tick delay.

Generation

Brushland uses the pack's climate-based biome table (see Terralith for the general placement rules). Within each climate cell, every biome whose original mod allows it there is eligible, and they share the cell by weight. Brushland's climate values (temperature 1.2, downfall 0.2) put it in the hot, dry part of the map. Its surface share in Fear Nightfall is about 1.40% of land, and its share of the cave layer at y = -30 is about 0.55%.

Brushland is not on the pack's list of biomes weighted 6× for horror. The pack concentrates horror biomes in humid, temperate-to-cool forests, taigas and swamps, so Brushland is not a horror hotspot. Its monster table still includes many horror mobs, as described below.

Features

  • Boulders: stone formations placed on grass-over-dirt ground.
  • Bushes and grass: the shrub and grass patches described above, plus glow lichen, brown and red mushrooms, sugar cane, pumpkin patches and warm flowers.
  • Caves and underground: surface and underground lava lakes, amethyst geodes, regular and deep monster rooms, and water and lava springs. The standard cave and canyon carvers apply.
  • Water and sand: underwater magma, and sand, clay and gravel disks.
  • Ores: the vanilla ore set, from andesite, diorite, granite and tuff clusters through coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis and diamond. Diamond also appears in buried, medium and large variants.
  • Mod features: Supplementaries cave urns and wild flax, Farmer's Delight wild tomatoes, Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks mithril ore, Butchery sulfur ore, and Born in Chaos infected diamond ore and black argillite.

Mobs and structures

Brushland has one of the broadest monster tables in the pack. It lists 56 monster types, each with its own weight. The most common are vanilla: spider, skeleton, creeper and slime at weight 100, and zombie at weight 95. Among the horror mobs, Slime Golem (weight 25), Skeleton Creeper (weight 20) and Necromancer (weight 18) are the most frequent. Decaying Zombie and Zombie Fisherman (both weight 15) follow. The rarest entries, at weight 1 or 2, include Krampus, Lifestealer and Supreme Bonescaller.

Born in Chaos had its spawn weights halved in this pack, bringing its share of the mob cap down to about 26% from 36%. Horror mobs are a noticeable part of Brushland's monster mix, but they do not replace the vanilla monsters.

Passive mobs are sheep, pigs, chickens and cows, with a few ferrets, horses and donkeys. Bats are the ambient mob. Water life includes Corpse Fish and Glutton Fish in open water, and ambient fish such as the Bluegill, Minnow and Carp in lakes. Underground water creatures include the Glow Squid.

The biome holds 186 structures, many of them from Terralith, Born in Chaos, Nova Structures, Structory and the village mods. The table below lists them.

Tips

  • Brushland's monster table is large and mostly hostile, so night travel here is risky. Carry a light source and a plan for a crowd.
  • Water here comes from lakes and springs, and the biome also has lava springs and lava lakes. Keep fire protection nearby when exploring caves.
  • Bats and ambient fish spawn here but are not a threat. The danger comes from the monster table.
