The Granite Cliffs is a temperate overworld biome added by Terralith. It is a rocky biome of grey, granite-streaked stone with a sparse cover of plants and trees. Fear Nightfall places it rarely, with a share of about 0.01% of the land surface, so most players will only meet it by travelling far from their spawn. Its hostile spawn list mixes vanilla monsters with horror creatures from Born in Chaos and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.
Description
The biome's terrain is built from granite. Terralith's granitifier feature places large granite blobs in the stone between Y 62 and Y 164, so exposed cliff faces show pale granite and the rock underneath is a mix of granite, diorite, andesite and tuff. The biome has a downfall of 0.3 and a temperature of 0.4, and it rains rather than snowing. The water is a deep blue (#3f76e4), the fog is pale blue-white (#c0d8ff) and the sky is a cool blue (#7da2ff). Ambient cave sounds play regularly because the biome's mood sound uses a 6000-tick delay. Together with the grey stone and the dim sky, these details make the biome feel bleak rather than open.
Vegetation is sparse. Small trees from Terralith's white-cliff set and vanilla pumpkin and sugar cane patches are among the features the biome generates. Pack mods add a few plants: Farmer's Delight adds wild carrots, onions and tomatoes, and Supplementaries adds wild flax.
Generation
In Fear Nightfall, the pack's custom biome table gives every biome that its original mod allows in a climate cell a share of that cell by weight. Granite Cliffs is not one of the biomes the pack weights at 6×, so it is a normal-weight biome in the overworld. Its land share is about 0.01%, which is why the biome is rare in a Fear Nightfall world.
Cave generation uses the same table and gives this biome a cave share of about 0.01% at Y -30.
Features
The biome's ores follow the standard vanilla overworld ore set, including granite, diorite, andesite, tuff, coal, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, copper and diamond. Several pack mods add ores here as well:
- Born in Chaos adds black argillite and infected diamond ore.
- Butchery adds sulfur ore in deepslate.
- Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds mithril ore.
Other features unique to the biome are the granitifier blobs described above, a small amount of decorative vegetation from Terralith's cliff sets, and the cave urns and wild flax added by Supplementaries. Amethyst geodes, lava lakes and monster rooms can appear underground in the biome, in the same way as in other Terralith caves.
Mobs and structures
The hostile spawn list is long. The most common monsters are spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes, followed closely by zombies. Slime Golems and Necromancers also spawn in useful numbers. Rarer horror mobs such as the Dread Hound, Krampus and the Nightmare Stalker also appear, so a player who walks into this biome should expect a mix of ordinary and dangerous enemies.
The biome can contain 165 structures. Several are horror structures from the pack's mods, including the Catacombs and the Firewell. Horror structures in Fear Nightfall are placed about 30% closer together than in the original mods, and where they share a structure set with other structures they receive 6× weight. The structure list is generated below.

Tips
- Granite Cliffs is rare. Expect to travel far from spawn to find it, and carry torches for the sparse, open terrain.
- The hostile mobs here include many that spawn often. Fight near a shelter you can seal and bring enough food and arrows for long fights.
- The biome has diamond, mithril and Born in Chaos ores, but the caves beneath it contain monster rooms and lava lakes, so mine with care and keep water and blocks on hand.
