The Terralith Spire is a surface structure added by Terralith that rises from the frozen rivers of the Overworld. It is a tower of ice, snow and packed ice, with a base section that holds mob spawners and loot containers and an open upper section of stacked ice and snow layers. It is placed in the rare-dungeon structure set and is one of the sparsest structures in the pack.

Generation

The spire generates only in the Frozen River biome, in the Overworld. Its start is placed at a fixed height of Y=92 and the structure does not reshape the terrain around it (terrain adaptation is set to none), so the tower sits on whatever ground is already there. Its pieces may extend up to 128 blocks from the start point.

Placement uses a random-spread pattern with a spacing of 69 chunks and a separation of 53 chunks. These are the in-game values after the pack's Sparse Structures tuning. Minecraft picks one candidate position per 69-by-69 chunk cell, and the separation sets how close two candidates may sit to each other. A candidate only becomes a spire if it lands in a Frozen River biome. No spires were observed in the 26 km² sample used for the pack's structure density survey.

Layout

The spire is built from six template sections. The structure begins with the layer 2 section. The sections connect through jigsaw blocks in the templates, and the assembly can reach a jigsaw depth of 6. The two base sections are the only sections that contain spawners and chests:

  • Base (left): a section about 107 blocks long and 31 tall. It holds three spawners, three chests, seven barrels, and a mix of stone, deepslate and diorite stairs, spruce trapdoors, soul lanterns, kelp and sea pickles in a water-filled area.
  • Base (right): a section of the same size. It holds seven spawners, ten chests, five barrels, and the same kind of stone and deepslate stair detailing.
  • Layers 1 to 3: tall sections made mainly of snow blocks, Ice, Packed Ice, Blue Ice and powder snow, lit by soul lanterns. Layer 1 is the largest of the upper sections, about 94 by 98 blocks, and adds stone, andesite and blackstone walls. These sections contain no spawners, chests or barrels.
  • Layer 4: the top section, about 51 blocks tall, built from the same ice and snow blocks with a single barrel that holds a treasure loot table. It has no spawners or chests.

Inhabitants

The spawners in the base sections create hostile mobs. The left base has three spawners, for Zombie, Stray and Silverfish. The right base has seven spawners: one each for Drowned and Zombie, three for Cave Spider and two for Skeleton. Both base sections also contain pre-placed Bat entities, eleven in the left base and six in the right.

The spawners are inside the base, so the mobs they produce stay close to the base sections. A player who climbs into the tower has to deal with them before reaching the upper layers. The upper layers have no spawners.

Loot

The spire has four chest loot tables, and each container rolls its table once. The tables are listed below.

  • Common: several pools of gunpowder, paper, books, leather, bone blocks, candles, powder snow buckets, packed ice, blue ice and snowballs. One pool rolls iron and gold ingots and nuggets, copper ingots and blocks, lapis lazuli and a single diamond at low weight. A further pool adds enchanted books.
  • Rare: three rolls of snow and ice items, a 50% chance of a tool from the rare tool tag, three rolls of enchanted books, and three rolls from a pool with iron blocks, gold ingots, copper blocks, oxidized copper variants and a diamond. The diamond is weighted 1 against 4 for iron blocks.
  • Treasure: three rolls of snow and ice items, and a 50% chance of one of a trident, a diamond pickaxe, shovel, axe, sword, chestplate, leggings or boots. The tools are enchanted and damaged. The table also rolls enchanted books, two rolls from a tag of diamond items, and one roll of TNT or an ender pearl. The treasure table is the most valuable of the four, but it is not a full diamond set: each roll picks one item.
  • Junk: four rolls of bone, string, cobwebs, snowballs, snow blocks and ice, a pool of damaged wooden and stone tools and leather armor pieces, each enchanted with levels, and a 40% chance of rotten flesh, an apple or bread.

Tips

The spire has no vanilla equivalent, so plan the trip as a base clear and a climb. Approach it on foot from the frozen river, and expect the spawners in the base to keep producing mobs until they are cleared. Clear the base before climbing, because the upper layers have no spawners and are safer to move through once the base is quiet.

Bring food and a sword before you enter. The chests and barrels in the base hold most of the loot, and the upper layers offer only the single treasure barrel in layer 4. Diamond tools and the trident are the main reason to visit. The common table is a source of iron and gold for early crafting.
