The Windswept Spires is a hill biome added by Terralith. It is one of the rarest biomes in Fear Nightfall, covering about 0.02% of the land, so a player will usually have to search for it. It is worth finding for its tall stone spires and for the horror mobs and structures that spawn among them.

The biome is tagged as a windswept and hill biome. It is cool and rainy, with a temperature of 0.2 and a downfall of 0.3, and it has rain but no snow.

Description

The biome is made of tall, narrow stone spires and cliffs rather than the open, rolling hills of other windswept biomes. The cliffs use a Terralith canyon-cliff feature with grass on their upper and lower ledges, so bare stone sits between grassy steps.

The ground is mostly grass, with patches of tall grass and tall foliage spread over the slopes. Spruce trees grow on the spires, and sugar cane and pumpkin patches grow in low ground. Glow lichen appears on some stone faces.

The fog is pale blue (#C0D8FF) and the sky is a light blue (#7DA2FF), which gives the biome a cold, open look in daylight. The biome plays a cave ambience sound, so it sounds emptier than the grass around it.

Generation

The Windswept Spires generates in the cool, damp part of the climate map. Its spawn share in the infobox shows how little of the land it covers. It is not one of the biomes that the pack weights 6×, so it appears at the normal rate for its climate.

The terrain is high and steep, so the spires are easy to spot from a distance once a player reaches a hill edge.

Features

  • Spires and cliffs. The stone pillars are the main landmark. Their grass ledges hold most of the biome's plants and trees.
  • Trees and plants. Spruce trees and tall foliage cover the spires. Tall grass, sugar cane and pumpkin patches appear on the lower ground.
  • Ores. The biome has the usual overworld ores, including coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond and emerald. It also has extra diorite ore near the top of the spires, from the Terralith feature.
  • Pack additions. Born in Chaos adds black argillite and infected diamond ore to the biome. Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds mithril ore. Infested stone also appears in the biome.
  • Underground water. Glow squid spawn in underground water.

Mobs and structures

The monster table is one of the busiest in the pack. Spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes have the highest spawn weight (100 each), followed by zombies (95). Other hostile mobs include slime golems (weight 25), necromancers (18), dread hounds (7) and spirits of chaos (4). Krampus is among the rarest spawns, with a weight of 1.

Creature and water spawns are normal for a hill biome: sheep, pigs, chickens, cows and llamas on land, and freshwater fish and glow squid in the water.

Several structures can generate here, including the Catacombs, an Evoker Fort, a Firewell and the Illager Hideout and Manor. A medium graveyard from The Graveyard is also placed in the biome. Many of these are horror structures, which the pack places closer together than in vanilla, so they are more common in this biome than in most hills.

The generated tables below list every mob and structure for this biome.

Tips

  • Cross the spires in daylight. The cliffs are steep, so take care near the edges.
  • Expect many hostile mobs at night, especially spiders, skeletons and creepers. Build a camp on stone with light placed around it, and clear the grass before dark.
  • Use Nature's Compass to find the biome. It is rare, so a search from a hill edge is quicker than wandering the map.
