The Desert Outpost is a surface structure added by Terralith. It is a small, walled-off building of sandstone and spruce that generates in arid biomes. Its chests hold farming food, a crossbow, arrows, iron ingots, an enchanted book and a chance at an armor trim template, and its brushable sand yields archaeology loot. A single pillager is assigned to the structure, so the outpost is a short fight rather than a dungeon.
The outpost is rare in the pack's terrain. No outposts appeared in a 26 km² sample of the Fear Nightfall world. Deserts are one of the biome groups the pack leaves mostly normal, so the outpost is not one of the horror-weighted structures.
Generation
The Desert Outpost generates in the Overworld, on the surface, in biomes tagged #terralith:has_structure/desert_outpost. The tag lists 15 biomes, among them Desert Canyon, Desert Spires, Granite Cliffs, Sandstone Valley, Ancient Sands, Joshua Desert, Saguaro Desert, Wasteland, Dryland, Outback, Lush Savanna and Desert Oasis. The outpost is not limited to hot, sandy biomes, so it also generates in savanna and cliff terrain such as Lush Savanna and Granite Cliffs.
Placement uses Terralith's regular structure set, where the outpost takes one of four weighted slots. It is placed by random spread with a spacing of 51 chunks and a separation of 28 chunks. The values below are the in-game values on the server, already scaled by the pack's Sparse Structures setting.

The structure's start is projected to the world surface heightmap, and terrain is adapted with the thin beard method, so the outpost sits on the ground and its edges blend into the slope around it. It is a single template rather than a multi-piece jigsaw.
From outside, the outpost reads as a low sandstone enclosure with spruce doors and fences. Lanterns and beds are visible inside, and white and yellow wall banners and many wall signs mark the walls.
Layout
The outpost is built from one prefab template, so every outpost has the same floor plan. The build is about 25 by 16 by 27 blocks. It mixes sandstone, smooth sandstone, cut sandstone and their stairs and slabs with spruce and dark oak wood. The interior contains a lectern, a barrel, two beds, lanterns, bookshelves and a crafting table.
The lectern holds a written book titled Sand, supposedly by a pillager. It is flavour text and has no effect.
The template has five ordinary chests and one trapped chest. A barrel is also in the build. The chests and barrel draw from the outpost loot table described below. Twelve blocks of suspicious sand are placed in the build, and each can be brushed for archaeology loot. Four TNT blocks sit beside four tripwire blocks on the floor of the build, so the outpost has an explosive trap as well as the trapped chest.
There are no puzzles or multiple variants. The outpost's hazards are the trapped chest, the TNT and tripwire trap, and the pillager.
Inhabitants
The outpost has a monster spawn override across its full bounding box. The override allows only one type of mob, the pillager, with a minimum and a maximum of one at a time. The game therefore keeps one pillager inside the outpost, and a new one is spawned if the first is killed. The pillager is the only hostile mob the structure assigns. It is not a boss, and no spawners are placed in the template.
The outpost has no other inhabitants, so a player can expect a single fight at most.
Loot
The five ordinary chests, the trapped chest and the barrel all use the loot table terralith:desert_outpost. The loot is listed in the table below. Each container rolls the following pools:
- Crossbow — zero or one crossbow.
- Food — two or three rolls of wheat, potato or carrot.
- Building blocks — one to four rolls of orange wool or sandstone.
- Mixed supplies — two or three rolls of experience bottles, string, arrows, tripwire hooks, iron ingots and an enchanted book. The book is enchanted with a random non-treasure enchantment.
- Goat horn — zero or one.
- Armor trim template — one roll that yields two dune or two sentry armor trim templates, or nothing. The empty entry has most of the weight, so a trim template is uncommon.

The best loot is the iron ingots, the enchanted book and the trim templates. The crossbow is worth taking if a player lacks a ranged weapon.
The brushable sand adds archaeology loot from the vanilla desert well and desert pyramid tables. Each suspicious sand block uses one of these two tables, nine blocks use the desert well table and three use the desert pyramid table.

Tips
Approach the outpost carefully and expect the pillager inside the walls. A crossbow or bow is enough to handle it at range.
Brush each suspicious sand block with a brush and check the Archaeology and Pottery Sherds page for the pottery and loot these blocks can produce. Open the chests carefully, since one of them is trapped and the floor has a TNT trap. If you want the trim templates, plan to open several containers, because most rolls return nothing.
