The Deep Warm Ocean is a warm deep-ocean biome added by Terralith. It combines warm, rainy deep-ocean water with hostile mobs and a set of ocean structures, and it is the place to find a Galleon, a monument or a Tide starfish. Players usually meet it while travelling across the sea.

The biome has a temperature of 0.5, a downfall of 0.5 and rain. It is tagged as a deep ocean. Its water is turquoise, and its sky and fog are pale blue. Fear Nightfall's biome table places it among the other ocean biomes; its surface share is 0.36% of land, and it also appears in the cave layer at y = −30 on about 0.34% of cave space.

Description

The biome's water colour is #43d5ee, its sky colour is #7ba4ff and its fog colour is #c0d8ff. The water fog is a much darker blue, so the sea floor is hard to see from more than a few blocks away. The biome plays the underwater music, and its mood sound is the ambient cave sound, checked every 6000 ticks (5 minutes).

The sea floor is a mix of sand, clay, gravel and dirt, with patches of tuff, andesite, diorite and granite. Sugar cane, pumpkins, glow lichen, mushrooms and flowers grow on land and islands. Warm-ocean plants (kelp, seagrass and warm-ocean vegetation) grow in the shallow water. Underwater magma blocks appear on the sea floor, and springs of water and lava appear underground.

Generation

The Deep Warm Ocean is tagged as a deep ocean and sits in a warm, rainy climate. Its surface share is 0.36% of land. Fear Nightfall's biome table places oceans, rivers and caves on the same weighted table as land biomes, so the biome appears only where its climate and neighbours allow it.

The biome is not one of the pack's horror-weighted biomes listed in Horror and Spooky Content. Its horror content comes from its hostile mobs and its structures.

Features

  • Ores. The biome has the standard overworld ores, including copper, coal, iron, gold, redstone, lapis and diamonds.
  • Sea-floor features. Clay, gravel and sand discs appear on the sea floor, and underwater magma blocks are placed on the bottom.
  • Plants. Warm-ocean kelp and seagrass grow in the shallow water. Sugar cane, pumpkins, flowers and mushrooms grow on the shore and on islands.
  • Barnacles. Supplementaries adds ocean barnacles and shore barnacles to the sea floor and the shore.
  • Sulfur and salt. Butchery adds deepslate sulfur ore and sulfur veins underground, and salt discs on water-bordered surfaces. See Sulfur and Salt (Butchery).
  • Tide catches. The biome is tagged for Tide starfish fishing, so starfish can be caught here with a fishing rod.

Mobs and structures

Hostile mobs in the biome include spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies, each with a monster weight of 95 or 100. Skeleton creepers, endermen, drowned, zombie villagers and witches have much lower weights, and the Mutant Monsters variants of skeletons, creepers, zombies and endermen have weights of 1 to 5. Ambient and water mobs include bats, glow squid, squid, dolphins, and a large set of Tide fish. The Aquathorn is one of the Tide fish that spawns here.

The biome holds 13 structures. These include the vanilla ocean monument, the Better Ocean Monument, the Trident Trial Monument, the Galleon pirate ship, and ruined ocean structures such as shipwrecks and warm ocean ruins. Mineshafts also generate in the biome.

Monuments hold guardians and elder guardians, and the galleon carries pirate pillagers and plunderers. Hostile mobs spawn after dark, so the monster weights matter most at night.

Tips

  • Bring a supply of air for underwater work. The water fog hides the sea floor from a short distance.
  • Build on an island or shoreline rather than in open water, since hostile mobs need dry ground to spawn on.
  • The biome spawns warm-variant frogs and gold rabbits, so check the spawn list before setting up an animal farm nearby.
  • Fishing here can catch Tide starfish and fish. Tide's fishing mechanics are in Tide Fishing.
  • Snow golems melt in this biome, so do not build them here.
