The Ashen Savanna is a hot, dry overworld biome added by Terralith. It is a grey-toned variant of the savanna with open ground and scattered trees. In Fear Nightfall it is one of the horror biomes, weighted 6× in biome selection, and it has a long list of hostile mobs, several of them dangerous at night.

Description

The Ashen Savanna has a dry, open landscape with muted colours. Its grass colour is a pale grey-green (#c0bbac) and its foliage colour is similar (#c2c0a9), so the ground and leaves look washed out compared with a normal savanna. Water is a standard blue (#3f76e4). The sky is pale blue (#b1d1ff) and the fog is a lighter blue (#cde6ff). The biome has a temperature of 1 and a downfall of 0, and it has no precipitation, so it never rains or snows there.

Trees are the savanna types that Terralith adds to the biome: baobabs, cone-shaped trees, and small and tiny trees. Plant life includes glow lichen, warm flowers, sugar cane, pumpkin patches, and brown and red mushrooms. Wild flax from Supplementaries also grows here.

Generation

The Ashen Savanna is a rare biome. It makes up about 0.06% of the overworld's land in Fear Nightfall. Fear Nightfall gives it a 6× weight in biome selection, the same weight as the pack's other main horror biomes, such as the Dark Forest and the Deep Dark. The biome is tagged as both a savanna and a mountain biome.

Structure placement in Fear Nightfall is also changed for horror structures. Those from Born in Chaos, the Catacombs and other horror sets are placed about 30% closer together than in the unmodified mods, so the biome contains more of them than a plain savanna would.

Features

The biome has several features that are specific to it:

  • Lava. Lava lakes generate both on the surface and underground, and lava springs appear underground. Lava is the most dangerous terrain feature here (see the Tips section).
  • Ores. Standard overworld ores are present, including coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, and diamond (in medium, large and buried forms). The biome also has ores from other pack mods: Mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, infected diamond ore and Black Argillite from Born in Chaos, and sulfur ore from Butchery.
  • Geodes and dungeons. Amethyst geodes and the standard monster rooms generate underground.

Mobs and structures

The mob tables below are generated from the pack's spawn data. Monsters that spawn in the biome include spiders, skeletons, creepers, zombies and slimes, with weighted spawns of more dangerous mobs such as the Nightmare, the Dread Hound, the Necromancer and the Nightmare Stalker. Slime golems and skeleton creepers also spawn here. Passive animals include sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, llamas and wolves.

Structures that can generate in the biome include the Catacombs, the Evoker Fort, the Illager Hideout and Manor, the Clown Caravan, the Firewell and the Infernal Pumpkin Patch. The biome also has many structures from other mods that are not listed here.

Tips

  • Prepare for night. Spiders, skeletons, zombies and the horror mobs spawn in large numbers after dark, so arrive with light sources, armour and food.
  • Watch for lava. Lava lakes and springs are hard to see in the dark, so place lights around any open lava before moving through the area.
  • Expect horror structures. The biome's structures are more likely to be horror sets than a plain savanna's would be, so check the surroundings before entering a structure.
