Moonlight Grove and Moonlight Valley are two humid forest biomes added by the Terralith mod. They share one colour palette, one set of mob spawns and most of their ore and plant features, and differ mainly in their surface decoration and in how much of the world they cover. In Fear Nightfall both are rare, but their hostile spawn tables include many of the pack's horror mobs, so a player who crosses them at night meets a wide range of undead, pumpkin and spider-type enemies.

Description

The two biomes use the same visual settings. Grass is tinted pale blue (#9EB2E1), foliage is a pale green (#7CC895), and water is tinted blue (#92B2E1). The fog is pale blue (#C0D8FF) and the sky is a clear mid blue (#79A6FF). Underwater fog is a very dark blue (#050533), so the water column is hard to see through. The ambient mood sound is the cave sound, and the background music is the overworld forest track, with 12 000 to 24 000 ticks between plays.

Moonlight Grove

Moonlight Grove is the smaller of the two. Its generated features are blue flower patches (blue disks, nylium disks, amethyst clusters and blue trees from Terralith), glow lichen, brown and red mushroom patches, sugar cane, pumpkin patches and grass patches of the kind found in badlands. Lava lakes appear both at the surface and underground, and the biome has spring water and spring lava.

Moonlight Valley

Moonlight Valley uses the same feature list as the Grove with two additions: a cliff grass pattern in two height bands (terralith:canyon/cliff/grass_upper and terralith:canyon/cliff/grass_lower), and patches of orange tulips.

Generation

Both biomes use a temperature of 0.7 and a downfall of 0.8, and they have rain. Both are tagged as forest biomes. The pack's biome table places biomes of the same type next to each other, so these biomes border other forests in the pack's world layout.

Moonlight Grove covers about 0.04% of the land in a Fear Nightfall world, and Moonlight Valley covers about 0.17%. Terralith as a whole covers about 31% of the land. The biomes are not weighted for horror in the pack's horror table, so they are not among the biomes that receive the 6× weighting used for Dark Forest, Sleepy Hollows, Willow Swamp and the other horror biomes. The horror content still reaches them through the mob spawn tables, described below.

Features

Both biomes have ore generation for the standard overworld ores: coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond (including buried and large variants), andesite, diorite, granite, tuff, gravel and dirt. Pack mods add their own ores on top of this list. Born in Chaos adds black argillite and infected diamond ore, Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds mithril ore, and Butchery adds deepslate sulfur ore. Amethyst geodes also generate.

Several pack mods add plants and blocks as well. Farmer's Delight adds patches of wild carrots and wild onions, Critters and Companions adds silk cocoons, both on the ground and hanging, Supplementaries adds cave urns and wild flax, and Stony Cliffs adds its cliff feature. Monster rooms (small dungeon-like spawner rooms) appear both near the surface and deep underground. In cold conditions the top layer of the ground is covered with snow.

Mobs and structures

Both biomes spawn the same hostile mobs. The most common hostile types are the vanilla spider, skeleton, creeper, slime and zombie, each with a high spawn weight. The pack's horror mobs follow, including the Revenant, Necromancer, Dread Hound and Krampus, along with many Born in Chaos, Graveyard and Iron's Spells monsters. Hostile spawns are the main danger of these biomes at night. Passive spawns include crows, sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, honey golems, rabbits and ferrets. Ambient spawns include ladybugs, bats, leaf insects, roly-polys, snails, stag beetles, stick bugs, acorn weevils and jumping spiders. Water spawns include glow squid, corpse fish and a long list of freshwater fish, including bluegill, perch and minnows.

Moonlight Grove allows about 173 structures and Moonlight Valley allows about 157. Structures that can generate in these biomes include Mage Towers, Haunted House and Firewell, and Moonlight Valley also allows the pack's Luki's pillager outposts. The tables below list every structure and mob that can generate in each biome.

Tips

Treat these forests as night-time territory. The hostile spawn list includes many of the pack's strongest horror mobs, so carry a sword, armour and a light source before dusk. The water in both biomes has very dark underwater fog, so it is hard to see far underwater. The water spawn list includes several cave and deep-water creatures, so keep an eye on lakes and rivers as well as the forest floor.
