The Yellowstone is a cold, rainy biome added by Terralith. Its ground is a patchwork of basalt, blackstone, gravel and sand, with pools of water, underwater magma and lit campfires placed on magma blocks, so it reads as a volcanic field. It covers about 0.99% of the land surface in Fear Nightfall, which makes it an uncommon biome.

In Fear Nightfall the Yellowstone has a mixed monster list. Vanilla spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes share it with horror mobs from Born in Chaos, the Graveyard mod and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks. Several of its structures are horror structures, so it is a place to cross carefully after dark.

Description

The Yellowstone has a pale yellow-green grass colour of #c6d097 and a pale blue-white fog colour of #e0e9ff. Its sky colour is #77a8ff and its water colour is #77e0f7. Its rain falls at a downfall value of 0.8. The biome plays the vanilla cave mood sound every 6000 ticks (five minutes).

The terrain uses Terralith's acid features. These are disk-shaped patches of sand, red sand, gravel, basalt, blackstone, smooth basalt, calcite and dirt, mixed into grass, dirt and coarse dirt. Orange, black, yellow and basalt variants each use a different mix of these blocks, so the surface changes colour from one area to the next. Red sand also forms its own patches through the Yellowstone terra sand feature. Lakes of water are placed on the surface, and underwater magma patches lie on the ocean floor.

The biome carves caves and canyons with the vanilla cave and canyon carvers. Its trees are birch trees and large spruce trees, each in two variants. The plants are grass, large ferns, sweet berry bushes, sugar cane and pumpkin patches. The pack also adds wild potatoes from Farmer's Delight, wild flax and cave urns from Supplementaries.

Generation

The Yellowstone generates in cold, humid climates, with a temperature of 0.24775 and a downfall of 0.8. The biome is in the vanilla minecraft:stronghold_biased_to tag, so strongholds prefer to generate in it.

Fear Nightfall does not weight the Yellowstone as a horror biome. It is not one of the biomes the pack weights at 6×. Its horror content comes from the mobs and structures that the other mods add to its spawn and structure lists. Its cave share at y=-30 is 0.00%, so the biome has almost no underground cave coverage in the pack's biome table.

Features

The biome uses the standard vanilla overworld ore set for its stone, and it places these features beyond the usual ores:

  • Ores: coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis and diamond, with the vanilla upper, lower, buried, medium and large variants. The vein layers for andesite, diorite, granite, tuff and gravel are also present.
  • Mod ores: Born in Chaos adds infected diamond ore and infected deepslate diamond ore, along with black argillite. Butchery adds sulfur ore in deepslate, salt disc generation and sulfur regeneration. Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds Mithril ore.
  • Magma and vents: underwater magma patches lie on the ocean floor. The vents feature places lit campfires on magma blocks that sit under water, with a weight of 3 for normal campfires and 1 for signal fires.
  • Plants and decoration: see the list under Description. Stony Cliffs Are Cool adds its cliff feature to the terrain.

Mobs and structures

The spawn tables below list every monster, animal and water creature that the biome can spawn, with its relative weight. The vanilla spider, skeleton, creeper and slime each have weight 100, and the zombie has weight 95. The horror mobs have lower weights. The Revenant and Slime Golem have weight 25 each, the Skeleton Creeper has weight 20, and the Necromancer has weight 18. Decaying Zombie and Zombie Fisherman have weight 15 each. The Dread Hound has weight 7, and the Krampus has weight 1. The pumpkin mobs, including Senor Pumpkin, also spawn here.

The animals are sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, wolves, foxes and rabbits. The cold frog variant also spawns here through a biome tag. The water creatures are Corpse Fish and Glutton Fish. The ambient fish include the Bluegill and Perch, which have weight 20 each.

The biome can generate 166 structures. Several village and outpost sets are present, including the taiga villages from Luki's Grand Capitals and CTOV, and the pillager outposts from Luki's Grand Capitals. Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds the Catacombs, and Born in Chaos adds the Firewell and the Infernal Pumpkin Patch. Its structure list also includes the Graveyard large graveyard and dead trees, and the Nova Structures creeping crypt and illager hideout. In the pack's shared village set, the villages from the mods are weighted equally, so they never stack on one spot.

Tips

  • Carry light and a melee weapon before dark. The Yellowstone has a large monster list with weights that favour the vanilla mobs, so the common spawns are spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes.
  • The Necromancer has weight 18 in the monster list, more than the Dread Hound's weight of 7, so it is the more frequent of the two.
  • The underwater magma and the campfire vents sit on the ocean floor, under water. They do not affect the surface.
  • Mining stone here can yield infected diamond ore from Born in Chaos and Mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, as well as the vanilla diamond ore.
