Stony Spires is a hill biome added by Terralith. It is a rocky, temperate landscape of stone columns and ridges, and it is one of the rarest biomes in Fear Nightfall. Players visit it for its ores, its underground features and its strongholds, and it has a hostile mob pool that is dangerous at night.
Description
Stony Spires has a stone-dominated surface. Terralith's cliff feature builds the stone columns and patches the exposed stone with moss blocks, dripstone blocks and granite, so the rock is not uniform. Plant life is scattered over the surface and includes a Terralith oak variant, a rare azalea tree, shrubland bushes, glow lichen, small mushroom patches and grass. A top-layer freeze feature can leave snow on exposed surfaces.
The biome's fog colour is #c0d8ff and its sky colour is #76a8ff, a pale blue that is slightly cooler than the default. Its water is #3f76e4. Its music is the vanilla Stony Peaks track, which plays with long gaps, and it has regular ambient cave sounds.
Underground, the biome places dripstone clusters, spring water and lava springs, lava lakes, amethyst geodes and monster rooms.
Generation
Stony Spires has a temperature of 0.7 and a downfall of 0.3, so it is temperate and rains. It is a hill biome in the Terralith windswept group and belongs to the vanilla is_hill, is_windswept and is_temperate biome tags. Vanilla strongholds are biased toward this biome.
In Fear Nightfall the biome covers about 0.02% of the land surface, which makes it one of the rarest biomes in the pack. It was not among the biomes that the pack raised to 6× weight in the biome table, so its rarity is set by Terralith's own weights. Structures are placed on it in the normal way: 117 structures can generate here, and the table below lists them.
Several of those structures are horror structures from Born in Chaos and the Graveyard mod. The pack places horror structures closer together than the mods' defaults, so these are more frequent than their mods alone would give.
Features
- Stone spires and ridges. The cliff feature produces the biome's signature columns. Its ground blocks are stone, moss blocks, dripstone blocks and granite, mixed by noise.
- Dripstone. Dripstone clusters are placed underground in this biome.
- Ores. Stony Spires generates the vanilla ores from dirt and gravel through iron, gold, redstone, lapis, copper, coal and diamond, as well as emerald and the infested stone variant. Pack mods add Born in Chaos black argillite and infected diamond ore, mithril ore from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, and sulfur ore from Butchery.
- Lava and water. Lava lakes appear both underground and on the surface. Spring water and lava springs also appear underground.
- Geodes and dungeons. Amethyst geodes and monster rooms are placed underground.
- Plants. Shrubland bushes, glow lichen, small mushroom patches, rare azalea trees and grass make up the surface plant life.
Mobs and structures
Stony Spires has a varied hostile mob pool. The most common hostile mobs at night are the vanilla spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies. Born in Chaos adds a large number of undead variants, including Zombie Fishermen, Zombie Lumberjacks, Zombie Clowns and Zombie Bruisers, along with the Dread Hound and the Bloody Gadfly. Necromancers from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks and the Slime Golem from Golem Overhaul also spawn here.
Passive animals are sheep, goats and wolves on land, and bats underground. Water life is glow squid underground, along with a range of fish and corpse fish in the water. The full mob and structure tables below are generated from game data.
The biome's structures include mineshafts, illager camps and hideouts, Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks catacombs and towers, and several Born in Chaos and Graveyard buildings. Stronghold biasing means strongholds are more likely to be placed here than in most other biomes.

Tips
- Diamond, emerald and mithril ore all generate here, which makes the biome useful for mining. Bring a weapon and armour before going out at night.
- Many hostile mobs in the table are from Born in Chaos. Check the spawn table before planning a night trip.
- Monster rooms underground contain spawners. Check cave openings before digging into them.
- Lava lakes and lava springs can appear near the surface. Check the ground before digging or crossing ridges.
- Strongholds are biased toward this biome, so searching Stony Spires is a reasonable way to look for one.
