The Ladybug is a passive, tameable flying mob added by Critters and Companions. It has 8 health (4 hearts). A tamed ladybug periodically gives Regeneration to nearby tamed mobs. Wild ladybugs are harmless and appear in forests, flower fields and underground lush caves. The mod adds ladybugs to the minecraft:entity_type/arthropod tag. They have no attack.

Spawning

Ladybugs are natural spawns from the vanilla spawner in several biome groups. Groups of 1–3 spawn in forest biomes, including Forest, Dark Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Forest, Maple Forest, Redwood Forest, Grove and Birch Taiga. Groups of 1–2 spawn in lush and flower biomes such as Meadow, Clover Plains and Poppy Fields. The mod also adds a custom spawner for lush caves. Every 40 ticks, for each player standing in an underground Lush Caves biome, it attempts up to 12 positions within 24 blocks and spawns one weighted lush-cave creature, which can include ladybugs. Spawns are capped at 8 such creatures within a 48-block box around the player.

Natural spawn weights and group sizes for each biome are listed in the table below.

The Ladybug Spawn Egg (Ladybug Spawn Egg) spawns a ladybug when used. It stacks to 64.

Forests are the main place where horror content is concentrated in the pack. Horror biomes make up roughly a quarter of temperate-to-cool, humid forests, taigas and swamps, and horror structures are placed about 30% closer together there. Ladybug forest spawns fall in the same areas.

Behavior

A ladybug is a flying passive mob. It uses a flying movement controller and a flying path navigator, and it can float on water. It takes no fall damage. While flying downward, its vertical speed is multiplied by 0.6. Its walking speed is 0.2, and its flying speed is 0.8. In the open it wanders randomly through the air, and it looks at nearby players within 8 blocks.

When it is hurt, a ladybug panics. It flies to a random point in the air up to 16 blocks away at 1.25 times its normal speed. Wild ladybugs do not follow players. A wild ladybug that is not named and is far from players despawns.

Taming

Ladybugs are tamed by feeding them any item in the common mushrooms item tag (c:mushrooms). Each mushroom is consumed, and the taming roll is made on each use. A ladybug has a 1-in-10 chance to become tame on each attempt. A failed attempt consumes the item and shows a failure effect.

A tamed ladybug follows its owner at 1.4 times walking speed. It starts following when the owner is more than 10 blocks away and stops at 2 blocks. Right-clicking a tamed ladybug with mushrooms heals it by 2 health if it is damaged. Otherwise, mushrooms let it breed if it is a baby or in love; in any other case the click toggles sitting, which is also what an empty hand or a non-food item does.

Tamed ladybugs are not removed when far from players. A tamed ladybug also regenerates 1 health every 60 seconds while it is below full health.

Healing aura

Every 9 seconds (180 ticks), a tamed ladybug gives Regeneration I for 10 seconds to every other tamed mob within 4 blocks that is below full health. The check looks at any tamed mob of the TamableAnimal class, such as tamed wolves and cats, and it does not affect wild or untamed mobs. The aura only runs while the ladybug itself is tamed.

Breeding and babies

Two adult ladybugs breed when fed mushrooms. A baby ladybug has its maximum health reduced to 4 (half of the adult 8). If the parent is tamed, the baby is given the same owner and is tamed as well.

Drops

Ladybugs have no loot table, so they drop nothing when they die.

No item drops.

Tips

  • Taming has a 1-in-10 chance per mushroom, so expect to use several mushrooms on a wild ladybug.
  • Keep a tamed ladybug within 4 blocks of tamed wolves or cats so they receive Regeneration every 9 seconds.
  • Ladybugs have only 8 health, and a baby has 4. Keep them away from fights.
