The Deciduous Forest is a temperate, rainy forest biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is one of the mod's retired biomes: it is registered and its data is complete, but the biome is hidden from the world-creation biome list and is not placed in Fear Nightfall's overworld, so a player cannot find one through normal exploration. This page documents the biome as it is defined, together with its cold counterpart, the Cold Deciduous Forest, which is retired in the same way. Both biomes carry the horror mob tables used across the pack's forests, so they would be dangerous at night if they were ever enabled.
The Deciduous Forest has a temperature of 0.8 and a downfall of 0.6, and it rains rather than snows. Its fog colour is a pale blue (#c0d8ff), its sky is a clear blue (#79a6ff) and its water is a deep blue (#3f76e4). Its main terrain features are oak trees and fallen oak logs.
The Cold Deciduous Forest uses the same tree and log layout in a snowy climate. It has a temperature of -1.5, a downfall of 0.8 and snowfall. Its grass is a cool green-teal (#66b9a4), its foliage is a darker teal-green (#55ab84), and its sky and fog are icier (sky #7fa1ff, fog #c0d8ff). It adds snowy flowers and snowbelle plants to the ground cover.
Generation
Neither biome is in the overworld biome table of Fear Nightfall, so neither generates naturally, and the pack's land-share measurements do not include them. The mod hides retired biomes from the world-creation list and does not place them by default. Their references in vanilla structure tags and surface rules remain, but they have no effect unless the biome is placed.
Both biomes take part in the standard overworld cave and canyon carvers (cave, extra underground cave and canyon). Their ore placements are the same as those of the standard overworld biomes, so coal, copper, iron, gold, lapis, redstone and diamond appear in the usual layers.
Features
Beyond the shared ore and stone placements, the Deciduous Forest has these features:
Trees: oak tree groups and fallen oak logs, which are the biome's main terrain features.
Ground cover: sparse ferns and short grass, plus patches of wild carrots and wild onions from Farmer's Delight.
Flowers and flax: forest flowers and wild flax from Supplementaries.
Spider silk: silk cocoons, both on the ground and hanging from branches, from Critters and Companions.
Pumpkins and sugar cane: the vanilla pumpkin and sugar cane patches.
Cave urns: urns from Supplementaries.
Cliffs: the Stonycliffs cliff feature.
The Cold Deciduous Forest keeps the oak trees, fallen logs, ferns and cliffs. It adds snowy flowers and a snowbelle plant, and it has no wild carrots, wild onions or silk cocoons in its placed features.
Mobs and structures
The generated tables below give the spawn weights for both biomes. The Deciduous Forest's monster table is the larger of the two. It includes ghouls (weight 25), Dread Hounds (weight 7), Bloody Gadflies, Dark Vortexes, Mrs Pumpkin and Mr. Pumpkin, Skeleton Demoman, Krampus and Mutant Skeletons. The Cold Deciduous Forest has the same family of horror mobs, with Nightmares (weight 7), Restless Spirits, Revenants and Slime Golems in place of ghouls. It also spawns snow-biome creatures such as Rabbits, Wolves and Shima Enagas.
The structures these biomes allow include the Graveyard mod's dead trees and graveyards, the Dark Tower of Born in Chaos and the Firewell, and, in the cold variant, the Ice Spider Den. The full structure list is shown in the table below.
