The Prismachasm is an underground cave biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is a deep, enclosed cave with a floor of prismoss and deepslate, lit by clusters of glowing prismarite crystals that grow from the floor and hang from the ceiling. The biome is found only underground, so a player has to dig or follow a cave system to reach it. In Fear Nightfall its monster spawn list is dominated by mobs from Born in Chaos, which makes it one of the more dangerous underground regions in the pack.

Description

A Prismachasm is a large cave with stone and deepslate walls. Its floor is covered in prismoss, a moss-like block that grows over the stone. Below y = 0 the floor is deepslate, and between y = 0 and y = 8 the stone and deepslate floor blend together. Where the floor lies under water, the surface rule places prismoss on the bed of the water, so cave pools also have a prismoss floor.

Prismoss sprouts and cave hyssop grow over the floor in patches. Prismarite clusters grow on the floor and hang from the ceiling. There are two sizes of floor cluster, a small prismarite cluster and a large prismarite cluster, and both emit light at level 10. The hanging prismarite clusters also emit light at level 10. The clusters are the main light source in the cave, and their glow is visible from a distance.

The biome has its own colour set. Grass is tinted green-blue (#9ae7b6) and foliage is tinted a brighter blue (#0099ff). The fog is pale blue (#c0d8ff) and water is the standard overworld blue (#3f76e4). Prismarite sparkle particles drift through the cave at a low rate, and the cave plays the dripstone cave music.

Generation

Prismachasms are placed by a special rule rather than by the normal biome weight table. The rule places them in underground regions where the depth noise is in its deep band (0.2 to 0.9) and erosion is in the upper half of its range (0 to 1). Humidity is restricted to its lowest band (-1 to -0.8), so the biome forms in dry underground regions. Temperature and continentalness are unrestricted. The biome is enabled in the pack.

In Fear Nightfall the biome makes up about 0.28% of the cave space at y = -30, measured on the live server. That is a small share, so a Prismachasm is a rare find compared with the other cave biomes.

Features

  • Prismoss and deepslate prismoss form the floor. A shovel can flatten prismoss into a path block. See Prismarite and Prismoss for the block details.
  • Prismoss sprouts and cave hyssop grow as vegetation patches on the floor.
  • Prismarite clusters (small and large) grow on the floor. They are placed only outside structures.
  • Hanging prismarite clusters hang from the cave ceiling across the biome.
  • Ores use the pack's underground ore placements, including the ore placements from Born in Chaos for infected deepslate diamond ore.
  • Cave urns and wild flax from Supplementaries can generate in the cave.

Prismarite clusters are a trim material for armour trims, so the biome is a source of trim material as well as light.

Mobs and structures

The monster spawn list is one of the longest in the pack. The common cave monsters from vanilla (spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes, and zombies) are joined by a large number of Born in Chaos mobs, including the Dread Hound, Krampus, Spirit Guide, and Sir Pumpkinhead. The Necromancer also spawns here. Ambient creatures include the Coal Golem and Slime Golem, and bats. Water creatures include Corpse Fish and glow squid, which spawn in the cave's underground water.

Several mods add structures that can generate in the biome, including Mineshaft and Ruined Portal from vanilla. The table below lists every structure that can generate here.

Tips

  • Carry a light source and watch the cave ceiling. The hanging prismarite clusters are easy to miss, and the monsters in this biome are the reason the cave is dangerous at night and in the dark.
  • Prismarite clusters emit light, so they make a reliable landmark for finding a route back through a cave.
  • Prismarite clusters break instantly, so they can be collected with any tool or by hand.
  • Keep a supply of light sources for the trip back up, since the clusters only light the cave itself.
