The Regions Unexplored Grass Blocks are a group of terrain blocks added by Regions Unexplored. They include three grass blocks that grow on argillite, stone and deepslate, two nylium blocks, a short frozen grass plant, a mossy stone block and an overgrown bone block. The grass blocks follow the same basic rules as vanilla grass: they spread into neighbouring blocks of their base material, they revert to that base block when they are covered by water or cannot receive enough light, and they can be bonemealed. The blocks belong to the mod's terrain overhaul, which changes many vanilla surface rules and plant features in the Overworld and Nether.

Obtaining

The mod profile lists argillite, stone grass and deepslate grass among its natural terrain blocks, and the mod's surface rules place them in the world. Each of the blocks on this page can also be crafted.

Stone grass and deepslate grass are each crafted from stone or deepslate and Frozen Grass, or from one of six alternative items that the recipe accepts in place of Frozen Grass. Viridescent nylium and deepslate viridescent nylium are crafted from a brown mushroom or one of twelve alternatives, plus stone or deepslate. Mossy stone is crafted from stone and vines, and it can also be smelted or blasted from mossy cobblestone. The overgrown bone block is crafted from a bone block and glistering nylium.

Usage

Argillite, stone and deepslate grass blocks

The three grass blocks share the same properties, apart from hardness. All of them require a pickaxe to drop. Argillite grass and stone grass have a hardness of 1.5, and deepslate grass has a hardness of 3. All three have a blast resistance of 6. Each block has a snowy state, which is set to true when snow covers the block above it.

Shovels and hoes have no effect on these three grass blocks. They cannot be flattened into a path or tilled into farmland.

Each grass block has a random tick behaviour that closely follows vanilla grass:

  • If the block above is a full water source, or if the block above blocks enough light, the grass block reverts to its base block. For argillite grass this is argillite, for stone grass it is stone, and for deepslate grass it is deepslate.
  • If the light level above the block is at least 9, the grass block tries to spread. Each random tick it makes four attempts. Each attempt picks a random position up to one block away horizontally and from three blocks below to one block above. If that position holds the base block and has no water above it, it becomes the grass block.

Bonemeal can be used on these blocks when the space above is air. It places a plant feature from the mod's bonemeal feature set.

Viridescent nylium

Viridescent nylium and deepslate viridescent nylium do not turn into dirt or spread on their own. Bonemeal on a viridescent nylium block converts each neighbouring stone block into viridescent nylium, with a 50% chance per neighbour. Deepslate neighbours are converted into deepslate viridescent nylium instead. Each converted block then has a 50% chance to grow a short grass plant above it, if the space above is air.

Viridescent nylium has a hardness of 1.5, and deepslate viridescent nylium has a hardness of 3. Both have a blast resistance of 6 and require a pickaxe. Both emit ground spore particles at random.

Frozen Grass

Frozen Grass is a short, non-solid plant that breaks instantly. It has a hardness of 0, can be mined with an axe, and is flammable. Its compost chance is 30%. It can only be placed on blocks with the supports/frozen_grass block tag, and it cannot be placed on a snow layer that is less than eight layers high. The mod's "snowy frozen grass" option, which is enabled by default, adds Frozen Grass to the grove, ice spikes, snowy plains and snowy taiga biomes.

Mossy stone and overgrown bone block

Mossy stone has a hardness of 1.5 and a blast resistance of 6, the same as stone. The mod's overworld carver replacement tag includes it, so it can take the place of carved cave terrain. Overgrown bone block has a hardness of 2 and a blast resistance of 2, and it requires a pickaxe. Crafting an overgrown bone block into bone meal yields nine bone meal.

Endermen can pick up the nylium blocks and the overgrown bone block, because the mod adds them to its enderman-holdable tag.
