Redstone Caves Blocks are four decorative and functional blocks added by Regions Unexplored for the Redstone Caves biome: pointed redstone, raw redstone block, redstone bud and redstone bulb. Pointed redstone and redstone buds generate in the biome as cave decoration, the raw redstone block is a compact source of redstone dust, and the redstone bulb is a light source that also emits a redstone signal.
Obtaining
Natural generation
All four blocks generate only inside the Redstone Caves biome, which is a special biome enabled by default. Each feature attempt in a chunk is listed below.
- Pointed redstone clusters are the main natural source. Each cluster is a patch of vanilla redstone blocks in a floor or ceiling layer 2–4 blocks thick, with pointed redstone columns of height 3–6 growing from it. The feature makes 78–126 cluster attempts per chunk, at any height from the bottom of the world to Y 256.
- Loose pointed redstone is placed in groups of 1–5 at 192–256 attempts per chunk, spread over the full height range. Large pointed redstone adds 10–48 further attempts per chunk.
- Redstone buds make 150 attempts per chunk. Each attempt searches downward up to 12 blocks from a random position for a sturdy upward face and places the bud on it. Buds are not placed within 4 blocks of a generated structure.
- Redstone bulbs make 25 attempts per chunk, using the same placement method as buds and the same structure exclusion.
The redstone bud and the raw redstone block can also be crafted, as shown below. Pointed redstone and the redstone bulb have no crafting recipe.

Usage
Pointed redstone
Pointed redstone is modelled on vanilla pointed dripstone. It is placed on a solid face, and its shape changes with the blocks around it, from a single tip to a merged column. The behaviour follows vanilla dripstone:
- Water or lava above a tip can drip from the tip.
- An upward-pointing piece that loses its support is destroyed. A downward-pointing piece that loses support can break off and fall.
- Landing on the tip of an upward-pointing piece deals stalagmite fall damage. The fall is counted as 2 blocks longer than the actual fall and uses a damage multiplier of 2.
- Each random tick at the start of a column has a chance of about 1.14% to grow it further.
Pointed redstone does not emit a redstone signal.
Redstone bud
The redstone bud is a small decorative plant that can only sit on a solid, sturdy face. Other blocks cannot be placed over it. Breaking it without Silk Touch drops 1–2 redstone dust, subject to explosion decay. With Silk Touch it drops itself.
Redstone bulb
The redstone bulb is a light-emitting block with a light level of 12. It is a signal source with a redstone signal strength of 13, regardless of the side it is read from. It can only be placed on a solid face. It drops itself when broken, and it smelts in a furnace or blast furnace into redstone dust.
Raw redstone block
The raw redstone block is a pickaxe-only block that drops itself when broken. It is the compressed form of redstone dust: four redstone dust craft one raw redstone block, and it smelts or blasts back into redstone dust. It belongs to the item tags for redstone ores, so mods that read that tag treat it as a redstone source.
