The Alpha Grove is an overworld biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is a temperate, rainy woodland of oak-like trees, grassy meadows and scattered flowers, and it is one of the few Regions Unexplored biomes that replaces part of vanilla Mushroom Fields. In Fear Nightfall it is a rare biome, but its large mob and structure lists make it one of the more dangerous places to travel through after dark.
Description
The Alpha Grove has a temperature of 0.6 and a downfall of 0.6, so it rains regularly and never snows. The grass is tinted a pale green (#87D257) and the foliage a brighter green (#5BFB3B). Water is a deep blue (#1C58DD). The fog is pale blue and the sky a clear blue, and the ambient music is the forest track. Background cave sounds play at its ambient interval.
Floors are covered by alpha grass, a grass block from the Regions Unexplored set, except where the surface is underwater, which uses plain dirt. Alpha grass is mined with a shovel like any other grass block. Below Y=66 the exposed surface is gravel, and stone where it lies under an overhang.
Trees are the Alpha Wood set: a straight oak-like trunk with a rounded canopy of alpha leaves. Trunks that grow on alpha grass turn the ground beneath them into plain dirt. Two flowers grow in patches across the biome, alpha dandelion and alpha rose. The alpha dandelion can be made into yellow dye.
Generation
Regions Unexplored replaces part of the vanilla Mushroom Fields source with this biome. It takes 20 weight out of the vanilla Mushroom Fields source, the same weight as Ashen Woodland and Tropics. In Fear Nightfall it covers about 0.04% of the land surface, so it is uncommon. Caves in the biome are also sparse, at about 0.03% of the cave layer at Y=-30.
Fear Nightfall does not weight the Alpha Grove as a horror biome. It is not among the biomes given 6× weight in the pack's horror biome table. Its horror content comes from the structures that generate inside it, described below.
Features
- Trees: the biome places up to seven Alpha Wood tree attempts per chunk. Trees are only placed on dry land, so they do not grow in shallow water.
- Flowers: alpha dandelion and alpha rose patches. Their suspicious stew effect is Jump Boost, which lasts 5 seconds.
- Ores: the biome uses the standard vanilla ore set for coal, iron, gold, redstone, diamond, lapis and copper. Diamond also generates in buried and large clusters, and underwater magma also generates. Several Fear Nightfall mods add their own ore placements here as well, including infected diamond ore from Born in Chaos and mithril ore.
- Underground: the biome adds an amethyst geode, the standard monster room and deep monster room dungeons, and both surface and underground lava lakes.
- Pack additions: cave urns and wild flax from Supplementaries, silk cocoons from Critters and Companions, and wild carrot and wild onion patches from Farmer's Delight.
- Wood recipes: the alpha planks can be crafted into the vanilla oak boat, door, button, fence, fence gate, hanging sign, pressure plate, sign and trapdoor, so the wood is interchangeable with oak in those recipes.
Mobs and structures
The Alpha Grove has one of the longest mob lists among the biomes in Fear Nightfall. The most common hostiles are spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes, followed by zombies. Some of the rarer horror mobs can also spawn here, including the Dread Hound, Necromancer, Spirit of Chaos, Nightmare Stalker, Lifestealer, Supreme Bonescaller and Krampus. These spawn at low weight, so a player will usually meet them only after long searches.
Passive mobs include sheep, pigs, chickens and cows, along with crows and honey golems. The water hosts a range of fish, and the underground waters have glow squids.
The biome has more than 140 structures that can generate in it. Many are horror structures from the pack, including Graveyard Ruins, Catacombs, Dark Tower and Firewell, as well as the mausoleum and gallows structures. The pack places horror structures about 30% closer together than the mods do by default, so the Alpha Grove has a higher chance of containing a horror site than most biomes of its size. Villages, outposts and campsites from the merged village sets also appear here, so the biome is not only dangerous.

Tips
- The Alpha Grove has no wandering traders, no zombie sieges and no pillager patrols. A player cannot count on help from these, and fights are less frequent than in most biomes.
- Keep a torch or other light source ready at night. The hostile list is long, and most spawns happen in the dark.
- Alpha trees are a steady supply of wood for boats and doors, and the planks can stand in for oak in most recipes. Because they grow on alpha grass, trunks convert the ground underneath to dirt, so farms and builds that need grass should be placed away from the tree line.
- The rarer horror mobs and structures are the main reason to explore this biome. Expect the catacombs and graveyard ruins to be more common than in most biomes, since the pack places horror structures closer together.
