Highland Fields is an overworld biome added by Regions Unexplored. It takes a share of the vanilla Meadow climate range, with a temperature of 0.65 and a downfall of 0.6, so it is warm and rainy rather than cold. It is tagged as both a mountain and a plateau biome, which other mods use to treat it as elevated terrain. In Fear Nightfall it is a daytime grassland with a dense monster population at night, drawn from Born in Chaos and vanilla spawns.

Description

Highland Fields is an open, grassy biome with scattered pine trees, rock outcrops and flowering ground cover. Its colours are set by the biome effects: grass is #6aba6b, foliage is #81ba6a, and the sky is #6eb1ff with a pale blue fog of #c0d8ff. Water in the biome is tinted #3f76e4. The biome uses the vanilla meadow music at the overworld meadow track, so the ambience is quiet and pastoral in daylight.

The surface is decorated with daisy patches and short grass patches from Regions Unexplored, plus tall grass patches from vanilla. Rocks are placed from three weighted groups: plain cobblestone (weight 1), large stone boulders (weight 2) and large mossy stone boulders (weight 3). The mossy boulder has the highest weight, so it is the most common rock in the biome.

Trees are pine trees from Regions Unexplored. The tree group is weighted 4 to 1 in favour of a pine variant with bee nests over the plain pine, and the trees are placed sparsely, so the biome reads as open country with occasional pine clusters rather than a forest.

Generation

Highland Fields generates in place of part of vanilla Meadow. Regions Unexplored's default weights for the Meadow replacement are 70 for Highland Fields and 30 for Wisteria Grove, so Highland Fields takes the larger share of the vanilla Meadow climate. The biome's surface share in the pack's sampled land is 0.20 percent, which makes it rare. Its cave share at y = -30 is 0.04 percent. The biome is not one of the biomes that the pack weights 6 times for horror.

Because it replaces a vanilla source biome, it competes for the same climate space as other biome mods that replace vanilla Meadow.

Features

Highland Fields generates the full set of vanilla overworld ores, including coal, iron, gold, copper, redstone, lapis, diamond and emerald, with the buried and large diamond variants and the andesite, diorite, granite and tuff veins. Gravel, dirt and clay disks also appear, along with underwater magma, and the biome has infested stone patches from vanilla.

The biome also includes ores and special blocks from other mods in the pack. Born in Chaos adds infected diamond ore and infected deepslate diamond ore, and black argillite. Butchery adds deepslate sulfur ore. Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks adds mithril ore. The biome includes wild carrot and wild onion patches from Farmer's Delight, wild flax from Supplementaries, and cave urns and road signs from the same mod.

Underground, the biome generates the vanilla surface and underground lava lakes, amethyst geodes, and monster rooms (dungeons). Monster rooms hold spawners.

Mobs and structures

The spawn tables are generated below. The notable monsters are the vanilla spider, skeleton, creeper, slime and zombie (weight 100 for the first four, 95 for zombies), together with several Born in Chaos monsters including the Necromancer, Dread Hound and Krampus. The Slime Golem from the Golem Overhaul mod also spawns here. The rarest monsters, with weights of 5 or below, include the Mutant Creeper.

Passive mobs are goats and rabbits, and the ambient spawns are ladybugs and bats. Glow squid spawn in underground water, and corpse fish and glutton fish spawn in surface water. Wolves that spawn here use the chestnut variant.

Structures that can generate here include the village types from Terralith and CTOV, Born in Chaos structures such as the dark tower and the grave, and a large set of house, farm and tower structures from several mods. The full list is long, so the table below lists them with their placements and chest loot.

Tips

Night is the main danger. The biome's monster mix includes many monsters from Born in Chaos as well as the vanilla types. Plan to be inside a shelter or near a light source before dark, and bring a sword and a ranged weapon.

Lava lakes can appear on the surface and underground, so check the ground before walking across an open area at night. Monster rooms are sealed dungeons with spawners, so approach them with full health and an escape route.

The wild carrot and onion patches are a source of food, and the mithril and infected diamond ores are worth searching for underground.
