Hyacinth Deeps is an ocean biome added by Regions Unexplored. It is the mod's deep-water biome: most of its terrain lies below the surface, its water is a deep blue, and its seabed is dotted with glowing hyacinth plants, stone formations and tall water stalks. Its monster table includes many of the pack's horror mobs alongside the usual ocean creatures.

The biome is a replacement for Deep Frozen Ocean in the mod's default placement table. In Fear Nightfall it covers a small share of the land surface (see the infobox).

Description

Hyacinth Deeps is an ocean, so its terrain is mostly seabed. The seabed is gravel with patches of mossy stone, and the layer beneath it is stone. Ocean rock formations rise from the floor, built from stone and mossy stone.

The biome's colours are set by its data: the water is #3986C9, the fog is a pale blue (#C0D8FF), the sky is a light blue (#7FA1FF), and the grass and foliage are green (#6ABA6B and #81BA6A). The ambient sound is the cave ambience, played roughly every five minutes, and the background music is the Overworld grove track.

Water plants are the biome's defining feature:

  • Hyacinth Bloom is a small underwater plant that emits light (level 9). It replaces some of the seagrass that generates on the seabed, with a one-in-seven chance per seagrass placement. It breaks instantly and can be replaced by other blocks.
  • Hyacinth Flowers grow on the ocean floor, with 15 placement attempts per chunk. They emit light (level 8) and are shear-harvestable.
  • Tall Hyacinth Stock grows as a multi-block stalk from a sturdy floor up through the water. Each stalk is built from base, frustum, middle and tip pieces. Its count varies with noise across the biome, so stalks cluster in some areas and are sparse in others. A stalk gives off floating hyacinth particles at random, which is a purely visual effect.

Generation

Hyacinth Deeps has a temperature of 0.5 and a downfall of 0.5, with rain as its precipitation. Its share of the land surface is listed in the infobox. Its placement in Fear Nightfall follows the pack's custom biome table, which distributes ocean biomes by climate and weight, so its location is not fixed to any one region.

The biome has two placement tags that matter for structures. It counts as one of the biomes that Ocean Monuments require around them, and strongholds are biased toward generating in it. It is not one of the biomes that the pack weights at six times the normal rate for horror content. The horror mobs it spawns come from its own spawn table, not from horror weighting.

Features

Hyacinth Deeps is built on a standard overworld ore set, with caves and canyons as its carvers. Ores include the usual coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis and diamond ranges, plus the infected diamond ore and black argillite that come from Born in Chaos. Underground lava lakes and spring water and lava sources also generate here.

The biome's special features are its water plants and rocks:

  • Hyacinth Rocks are ocean rock formations of stone and mossy stone, placed alongside the amethyst geodes in the biome's feature list.
  • Hyacinth Lamp is a decorative block made by placing any hyacinth bloom or tall hyacinth stock on top of a prismarine slab. It can sit in water and is waterlogged when placed underwater.

The spawn table is the longest monster list in the biome data, and most of its entries are hostile. The highest weights go to the basic overworld monsters: spider, skeleton, creeper and slime (weight 100 each), then zombie (95). Among the horror mobs, the Revenant (weight 25) and the Necromancer (18) are the most common, followed by the Dread Hound (7) and the Spider's Mother (6). Krampus and Lifestealer are rare, at weight 1 each.

Ocean life is also present: squid and glow squid, corpse fish and glutton fish, drowned, and a long list of fish and other water creatures. The water ambient list is especially long and includes cave eels, shadow snappers and abyss anglers. Bats appear as ambient mobs on land.

Structures include the vanilla ocean monument and the Better Ocean Monument variant, cold ocean ruins, a galleon, ocean towers, an ocean ruined portal, and several Born in Chaos and Regions Unexplored ruins. The full list is in the structure table below.

Tips

Carry shears when you collect hyacinth flowers, because the flowers are shear-harvested. A hyacinth lamp can be placed underwater and works as a light source for an underwater base. Watch for the Revenant and Necromancer at night, and for the spider and skeleton spawns, which are the most common hostile mobs in the biome.
