The Honey Golem is a passive golem added by Golem Overhaul that spawns in forest biomes. It has 30 health and does not attack in melee. Instead, it fires honey blobs at nearby targets and keeps a colony of bees that it owns. Those bees sting with six times their normal damage and do not die after stinging while the golem owns them, which makes the colony the real danger. The golem can also be sheared for honey blobs and honeycomb.

The Honey Golem spawns naturally in 41 biomes, including Forest, Dark Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Forest, Grove, Woodland, Orchard, Pumpkin Patch, Bamboo Forest and Wisteria Grove. Its spawn list uses the #c:is_forest biome tag, with a weight of 6 and groups of 1 to 2. Natural spawns use the surface placement rules, so the golem appears on the ground where leaves do not block the surface. It has no time-of-day or light requirement and can spawn at night.
The pack's spawnHoneyGolems config toggle controls natural spawning. When the toggle is off, the golem no longer spawns naturally and becomes player-created, which means it stops attacking players.
The Golem Overhaul mod provides a Honey Golem Spawn Egg, which places one golem when used.
Behavior
On spawn, a Honey Golem is given 2 to 5 bees. Each of those bees is set to belong to that golem, and the golem's honey level starts at the same number as its bees. The golem's melee attack is disabled. It instead fires a honey blob at a living target within 15 blocks once every 20 ticks.
Each honey blob deals 6 damage. If the target is a player, the hit applies Slowness III for 180 ticks. If the target is a mob, the effect lasts 60 ticks. A blob that lands on the ground is discarded.
The bees the golem owns return to its hive at night. A stored bee is released after 2400 ticks of occupation, and that timer only counts during daytime in clear weather. A golem holds up to 5 bees. A nectar bee that drops off its nectar raises the honey level by one and heals the golem by 10 health. The golem also regenerates 1 health every 200 ticks while it holds bees, and 5 health on each nectar drop-off.
Owned bees deal six times their normal attack damage and do not die after stinging. A bee that is not owned, or whose golem is gone, behaves as a normal bee.
Damage from a non-creative player or mob makes the golem release all of its stored bees, and those bees attack the attacker. Killing the golem also releases every bee.
Honey level and shearing
The honey level equals the number of bees the golem holds, and it rises when a nectar bee returns. A golem with honey level 4 or higher can be sheared. Shearing gives 5 to 12 honey blobs and 3 honeycomb, then resets the honey level to 0.
Repair
The Honey Golem repairs with a honey bottle, which restores 20 health.
Fear Nightfall changes
The pack patches two bee problems from the original mod. Released bees no longer keep their golem ownership after the golem dies, and a Honey Golem no longer takes over any wild bee within 128 blocks.

Honeycomb | x0.0-3.0 |
A Honey Golem gives 8 experience points on death and drops 0 to 3 honeycomb from its loot table.
Related items
- Honey Blob (
golemoverhaul:honey_blob) is a throwable item that stacks to 64. The golem fires honey blobs as projectiles, and a thrown blob deals 6 damage with the same Slowness effect. The item launches with base damage 10, power 1.25 and inaccuracy 2. - Honey Golem Spawn Egg (
golemoverhaul:honey_golem_spawn_egg) places a Honey Golem when used. It stacks to 64. - Honeycomb comes from shearing the golem and from its death loot.
- The bees the golem owns are ordinary bees with the ownership and damage rules described above.
Tips
Keep farther than 15 blocks from a Honey Golem to stay out of its blob range. Its blobs apply Slowness III to players, so a slowed player is an easy target for the bees if they get close.
Hitting the golem releases every stored bee at once, and the bees go after whoever hit it. A player who wants the golem without its colony has to deal enough damage to kill it quickly, since a single hit already releases the bees.
Shearing at honey level 4 or higher collects honey blobs and honeycomb without a fight. Because shearing resets the honey level to 0, the golem needs to collect nectar again before it can be sheared a second time.
