Pumpkin Patch is a temperate, humid overworld biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is a forest of grass fields scattered with pumpkins, carved pumpkins and jack o'lanterns, with twiglet trees and orange maples between them. Its monster list is led by spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes, and it is one of the forests where the pack's Born in Chaos mobs spawn, so it is dangerous to cross after dark.
The biome makes up about 0.17% of land surface in the pack, so it is an uncommon biome. It is not one of the horror biomes that the pack weights 6× in biome selection, so it appears at its normal rate for its climate.
Description
The Pumpkin Patch has a temperature of 0.4 and a downfall of 0.8, so it rains rather than snows. Its ground is grass, which the pumpkin features require. The biome colours are golden grass (#ddbf4a), yellow-green foliage (#ced14a), blue water (#3f76e4), pale blue fog (#c0d8ff) and a light blue sky (#7ca4ff).
Its ambient mood sound is the vanilla cave sound, played every 6000 ticks (300 seconds) when a block is found within 8 blocks of the player. Its background music is the vanilla overworld forest track, played with a delay of 12000 to 24000 ticks.
Pumpkins
Pumpkin blocks are the biome's signature plant. The pumpkin feature makes 64 placement attempts per patch, each at a random spot up to 7 blocks away horizontally and 3 blocks vertically from the patch origin. An attempt succeeds only on air or leaves that sit above a grass block. Each successful spot then has a one in three chance of holding a pumpkin-type block:
- 78% of these are plain pumpkins.
- 18% are carved pumpkins, facing a random horizontal direction.
- 4% are jack o'lanterns, which emit light and face a random horizontal direction.
The other two in three successful spots hold persistent oak leaves, so the patches look dense without blocking movement.
A separate big pumpkin feature makes one attempt per chunk. It builds a solid cluster of pumpkin blocks topped with a short oak log and persistent oak leaves. It is skipped where the ground is not suitable or there is not enough clear space above it.
Generation
Pumpkin Patch has a temperature of 0.4 and a downfall of 0.8, which places it in the temperate, humid part of Biomes O' Plenty's overworld climate. It is a forest biome, so it sits alongside other forests and is included in the vanilla is_forest tag.
Like every Biomes O' Plenty biome, it is in the vanilla stronghold_biased_to tag, so strongholds lean toward generating near it. It also has a cave share of 0.02% at y=-30.
In Fear Nightfall the pack's biome table lets each biome share its climate cell by weight, and this biome is not one of the 6× horror biomes. Its share of land is set by the table and is listed in the infobox.
Features
- Trees: Each chunk gets six tree placement attempts (90% of chunks) or seven (10%). Trees are only placed where the surface has no water above it, and they follow the ocean floor heightmap. Most picks are twiglet trees. The rest are oak bushes (roughly 20% of the remaining picks), orange maples (roughly 10%) and big orange maples (roughly 5%).
- Orange maple leaf piles: Placed on the ground alongside the trees.
- Ground plants: Grass patches, reed patches, sprout patches and toadstools, with brown and red mushrooms as additional plants. Wild flax from Supplementaries and wild carrots and wild onions from Farmer's Delight also grow here.
- Cave urns: Supplementaries cave urns are placed in the biome.
- Silk cocoons: Both the standing and hanging silk cocoons from Critters and Companions are placed here.
- Ores: The biome uses the vanilla ore placements for coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond, dirt, gravel, granite, diorite, andesite and tuff. It also places Born in Chaos black argillite and infected diamond ores, Butchery sulfur ore and Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks mithril ore.
- Terrain: Stony Cliffs cliff features and the vanilla spring water and spring lava features. A top-layer freeze feature is also listed, but it does not produce snow at this temperature.
Mobs and structures
The biome's monster list is led by spiders, skeletons, creepers and slimes, each with a spawn weight of 100. Zombies follow with a weight of 95. Spawn weights are shown in the table below. The Born in Chaos and Iron's Spells monsters listed here are much rarer than the vanilla types, and the most frequent of them are:
- Necromancer (weight 18)
- Pumpkin Dunce (weight 8)
- Dread Hound (weight 7)
- Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkin (weights 7 and 6)
Passive and neutral mobs include crows (weight 20), sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, foxes, honey golems and wolves.
About 184 structure types can generate here, from many mods. Notable ones include the Born in Chaos Infernal Pumpkin Patch, which fits the biome's theme, and the Hexerei Witch Hut. Born in Chaos structures are among the horror structures the pack places about 30% closer together, so they are more frequent here than at default spacing.

Tips
Expect the monster list to be busy after dark. Spiders, skeletons, creepers and zombies spawn in large numbers, and the Born in Chaos monsters appear less often but are more dangerous. Carry a steady light source so that the spawn tables do not surprise you in the dark.
Jack o'lanterns give light, so they can mark a camp or a route through the patches. Carved pumpkins and plain pumpkins are solid blocks, so they can be used as cover or as walls.
Rain falls here, so keep a dry shelter ready if you are building or waiting for a monster to pass.
