Fungal Jungle is a warm, humid overworld biome added by Biomes O' Plenty. It is tagged as a jungle, a mushroom biome and a magical biome. Its ground cover includes grass and mycelium, and its monster spawn list is long and weighted toward common hostile mobs, so it is a dangerous place to travel at night. Fungal Jungle covers a small share of the land in Fear Nightfall, and it is a good place to find toadstools, a wide range of ores and several horror structures.

Description

The biome has a temperature and downfall of 0.9 and it rains rather than snows. The grass is tinted #cce525 and the foliage #e0e522. The water is tinted #3fdf64, and the fog is #e1ed63, so the air and water look yellow-green. The sky colour is #62dcea. Ambient music uses the vanilla jungle track, and the ambient mood sound is the vanilla cave sound.

Terrain is built from grass blocks and mycelium. Mycelium splatters appear on the ground, and dripstone splatters appear in the terrain. Toadstool plants, brown and red mushroom patches, glow lichen, sugar cane, sprouts and tall grass cover the surface. The biome has the closer water fog effect, so underwater visibility is shorter than in most water biomes.

Generation

Fungal Jungle covers about 0.24% of the surface land in the Fear Nightfall world and about 0.01% of the cave layer at Y = -30. The biome is placed next to other Biomes O' Plenty jungle-type biomes in the mod's overworld layout.

The pack's horror biome selection does not include Fungal Jungle. The biome therefore does not receive the 6× weighting that the pack gives to biomes such as Bayou or Spider Nest. Horror structures still spawn here when the structure's own biome list allows it, and the pack's structure spacing changes apply. The Giant Mushroom Grave and Memorial Trees structure, for example, is one of the pack's horror structures and can generate in this biome.

The vanilla biome tags also apply. Strongholds are biased toward this biome, and it counts as a jungle for vanilla jungle structures such as the Jungle Temple.

Features

  • Trees. Five or six trees are placed per chunk, with six appearing about one time in ten. Trees only grow where there is no water above the ground. Most are jungle bushes. About 10% are oak trees and about 5% are large oak trees. Despite the name, the biome's trees are not fungal.
  • Huge toadstools. Two huge toadstools are placed per chunk on grass blocks or mycelium. Each has a mushroom stem 2 to 14 blocks tall, topped by a cap of toadstool blocks about three layers thick. A huge toadstool needs a clear space about five blocks wide and nine blocks high above its base.
  • Small toadstools. Smaller toadstool plants grow in the same areas, and toadstool patches also appear on the ground. Toadstools are a block and an item, and the mod adds a rabbit stew recipe that uses toadstool as an ingredient.
  • Mushroom patches. Vanilla brown and red mushrooms appear in patches. Farmer's Delight adds Mushroom Colonies on the ground.
  • Ores. The biome has the full set of overworld ore placements, including coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond and the buried and large diamond variants. Iron's Spellbooks adds mithril ore, and Born in Chaos adds infected diamond ore and black argillite. Butchery adds sulfur ore in deepslate.
  • Liquids. The biome has spring water, spring lava, lava lakes and underwater magma.
  • Underground. Amethyst geodes and the vanilla monster rooms generate underground.
  • Frogs. Warm-variant frogs spawn in this biome.

Mobs and structures

The monster spawns are led by spiders, skeletons, creepers, slimes and zombies, each at the highest weight. Mobs from Born in Chaos and Mutant Monsters also spawn here, and the Necromancer has a notable weight in the list. Slime Golems spawn as a golem mob, and the biome's ambient mobs include Coal Golems, Leaf Insects, bats and Jumping Spiders. Water mobs include the Brown and Red Shrooma and several fish, such as the piranha.

The biome generates many structures. Notable ones are the Illager Hideout and Manor, Firewatch Towers, the Jungle Tree Village, the Giant Mushroom Grave and Memorial Trees and the Structory Towers set. The tables below list every mob and structure that the game generates in this biome.

Tips

  • Carry a light source and a sword or a ranged weapon after dark, because the monster spawn list is long.
  • Trees here grow only on ground with no water above it, so a base or farm is easier to plan on a dry patch away from the water.
  • Huge toadstools need a clear space about five blocks wide and nine blocks high. Clear the area first if you want to place or harvest one.
