The Shima Enaga is a passive, tameable flying mob added by Critters and Companions. It has 10 health (5 hearts) and never attacks. It spawns in snowy biomes in small groups, and a player can tame it with seeds to get a flying companion that follows its owner and can be fed to heal. Its spawn egg is Shima Enaga Spawn Egg, which stacks to 64.

Spawning

The Shima Enaga is a creature-category mob that uses the natural spawner. It spawns in biomes tagged as snowy (c:is_snowy), with a spawn weight of 3 and groups of 2 to 3 (set by the mod's config). The spawn rules are the vanilla animal rules: it spawns on the ground, not in the air, and needs a valid grass-type block below it and enough light. It has no time-of-day restriction. The full list of biomes is in the table below.

Behavior

The Shima Enaga flies using a flying movement control and a flying path navigator. It can float on water. It takes no fall damage, and while falling in the air its downward speed is halved, so it drifts down slowly. Its flight speed is 0.5 and its ground speed is 0.2. When it is not tamed, it wanders in random flights within about 16 blocks horizontally and 7 blocks vertically, and it looks at nearby players within 8 blocks. It has no attack goal and no attack attribute, so it cannot harm a player.

When it takes damage, it panics and flies to a random point in the air at 1.25 times its speed.

Taming and feeding

Its food and tempting item are both the item tag #crittersandcompanions:shima_enaga_food, which contains #c:seeds, so any seed item works, such as wheat seeds.

  • Taming: Each seed offered to an untamed Shima Enaga has a 1 in 10 chance to tame it. A failed attempt consumes the seed and shows a failure effect.
  • Healing: Feeding a seed to a tamed Shima Enaga restores 2 health. This only works when it is below full health.
  • Sitting: Right-clicking a tamed Shima Enaga toggles sitting. A sitting Shima Enaga stays where it is.
  • Following: A tamed Shima Enaga follows its owner when more than about 5 blocks away and stops within 1 block.
  • Breeding: Two adults that can breed will produce a baby when fed seeds. If the parent is tamed, the baby is tamed to the same owner.

Drops

A Shima Enaga drops between 0 and 2 feathers when it dies. Looting does not change the count. It also gives 2 to 5 experience points when killed by a player.

Tips

  • Seeds are the cheapest way to tame one, but the 1 in 10 chance means a few seeds are often needed. Tame it first in a snowy biome, then keep the seeds for healing.
  • A tamed Shima Enaga can be sat in one place to act as a fixed flier, or left to follow you across open snow.
  • Because a Shima Enaga cannot attack, it cannot defend itself or its owner. Keep it away from hostile mobs in snowy biomes.
