The Sea Bunny is a passive aquatic animal added by Critters and Companions. It lives in warm, lukewarm and ocean biomes and never attacks players or other mobs. Its main use for players is as the only source of Sea Bunny Slime Bottles, which craft into slimeballs and Sea Bunny Slime Blocks, and as a bucketable animal that can be carried to a base or released elsewhere.

The mob is an aquatic, ambient-category animal with 8 health (4 hearts) and a movement speed of 0.08. It is small, measuring 0.45 by 0.3 blocks, and it has three colour variants. It counts as aquatic under vanilla tags and can breathe underwater. Axolotls hunt Sea Bunnies.

Sea Bunnies spawn naturally in five biomes: Ocean, Deep Ocean, Warm Ocean, Lukewarm Ocean and Deep Lukewarm Ocean. Warm Ocean has the highest weight (32), and the other four have weight 16. Groups are small: 1–2 in the cold and deep oceans and 1–4 in the warm and lukewarm variants.

A Sea Bunny can only spawn in water. The spawn position must be water, the block above it must be water, and the block below it must be a solid surface with an upward face. The spawn height runs from 13 blocks below sea level up to sea level, so bunnies do not appear in deep trenches or above the ocean surface.

Behavior

A Sea Bunny wanders in short random strolls through water. It uses a wall-climbing navigator, so it can climb a block when it bumps into one horizontally. While in water it gets a speed bonus of 2.0 on top of its normal speed, so it moves much faster when swimming than when walking on land.

It does not target players and has no attack. When it takes damage, it switches to a panic behaviour at speed 1.5.

Sea Bunnies breed when they are fed sponges. Sponges, wet sponges and any item in the common sponges tag are the only items the mod adds to the bunny's food tag, and the same items tempt a bunny to follow a player holding them. A bred pair produces a baby, which takes its variant from its parents if both parents are Sea Bunnies. Babies have 4 health instead of 8 and grow into adults over time.

Sea Bunnies are the only source of the Sea Bunny Slime Bottle. Right-clicking an adult Sea Bunny with an empty glass bottle fills it with slime and puts that bunny on a cooldown of 6000 ticks (5 minutes). Babies cannot be bottled. Bottles stack to 16.

Right-clicking a Sea Bunny with an empty bucket or a water bucket collects it into a Bucket of Sea Bunny. Unnamed, wild Sea Bunnies that are not in a bucket can despawn when the player is far away. Bunnies that are bucketed or have a custom name are not removed for distance.

Drops

No item drops.

The Sea Bunny has no death loot table, so killing it does not produce items. It grants a small amount of experience, from 2 to 4 points. Its items are obtained by interacting with it, as described under Behavior.

  • Sea Bunny Slime Bottle. Filled from a Sea Bunny with a glass bottle. It can be crafted into a slimeball (shapeless, one bottle for one slimeball, and the glass bottle is returned). Four bottles arranged in a 2×2 square craft one Sea Bunny Slime Block.
  • Sea Bunny Slime Block. A block with no collision shape. An entity standing on it or inside it has its fall distance reset every tick, so landing on it causes no fall damage. Entities on the block are moved with water-style physics, so they swim rather than walk. The block has hardness 0 and blast resistance 0, and it survives explosions when it drops.
  • Bucket of Sea Bunny. Places a Sea Bunny back into water when used.
  • Sea Bunny Spawn Egg. Spawns a Sea Bunny directly.

Tips

  • To collect slime bottles, hold an empty glass bottle and right-click an adult Sea Bunny. Each bunny supplies one bottle per 5 minutes, so breeding more bunnies is the way to get more bottles.
  • Keep baby bunnies while they grow. They cannot be bottled until they are adults.
  • Axolotls treat Sea Bunnies as prey, so an axolotl nearby will thin out a wild Sea Bunny population.
  • A Sea Bunny Slime Block stops fall damage for anything that lands on it.
