The Lich, also called the Corrupted Champion, is a multi-phase boss added by The Graveyard. It has 400 health in its first phase and fights with spells as well as melee attacks. It is the boss that drops the five bone staffs, which summon Ghoulings when used. The Lich is never generated naturally. A player must use an altar with the right materials to start the fight, and the boss stays near that altar for the first phase.
The Lich is a Monster-category entity. Its attributes are fixed in code: 400 maximum health, 30 attack damage, 18 armour, 14 armour toughness, 25 follow range and 1 knockback resistance. The pack adds it to the #c:bosses tag, so the Tide's Pocket Watch cannot freeze or skip the fight.
Spawning
The Lich does not spawn in any biome or structure. It appears only when a player summons it at an altar. The summon needs three things:
- Time: the altar must be used after nightfall.
- Blood: a Vial of Blood that holds at least 0.8 blood. The vial is filled by killing villagers with the Bone Dagger while a glass bottle is held in the offhand.
- Staff fragments: the three Ominous Bone Staff Fragments (upper, middle and lower). The config option
summoningNeedsStaffFragmentsis on by default. The default config also accepts a debug stick as an alternate altar trigger.
Using the altar sets its bloody state to false.
Does not spawn naturally in any biome (see Obtaining/Spawning text).
Behavior
The fight is divided into phases. Each phase has its own health pool and set of attacks.
Casting phase
At the start of the fight the Lich has 400 health. It attacks in melee for 30 base damage and casts spells on cooldowns. The spells are:
- Summon fallen corpses: summons Falling Corpses (see Variants). The spell lasts 400 ticks, and its cooldown is 400 ticks.
- Conjure fangs: summons evoker fangs.
- Shoot skulls: fires skull projectiles. Up to 5 skulls are fired per cast.
- Teleport and heal: the Lich teleports back to its home position and heals. The heal lasts 700 ticks, with a cooldown of 600 ticks.
- Levitation: levitates the target for 150 ticks, with a cooldown of 400 ticks.
The Lich is invulnerable while it casts spells.
Hunt phase
When the casting phase ends, the Lich's health is set to 200 and it begins the hunt. The hunt lasts 800 ticks (40 seconds). A loud cracking sound signals that the hunt is starting.
- Players in range are teleported to random nearby positions, and they receive blindness (level III, 80 ticks) every 50 ticks of the hunt. Creative-mode players are not affected.
- While it is attacking, the Lich gets +40 attack damage (70 in total) and +0.15 movement speed. Both values are hard-coded.
- The Lich is invulnerable during its spells in this phase as well.
Summoned ghouls
During the fight, ghouls are summoned on a timer. A ghoul is summoned every 400 ticks until the fight has run for 6000 ticks. After that, a ghoul is summoned every 600 ticks until 12000 ticks. At most 30 summoned mobs are alive at once.
Final form
After the hunt, the Lich enters its final form, which keeps attacking.
Drops
The Lich drops one of the five bone staffs. Each staff is a different colour and summons a different Ghouling variant. The drop is guaranteed, with a count of one.
Falling Corpse
No item drops.

Variants
The Lich has no variants of its own. The entries below cover the mob it summons, the projectile it fires and the items linked to the fight.
Falling Corpse
The Falling Corpse is a hostile mob summoned by the Lich's corpse spell. It has 10 health and deals 2 attack damage. It does not spawn naturally.
Skull
The skull is the projectile fired by the Lich's shoot-skull spell. It is a miscellaneous entity, not a mob.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Falling Corpse | 10.0 | 2.0 | 0.7 | 0.4×0.5 | Hostile | |

Related items
- Ominous Bone Staff Fragments: three blocks (upper, middle and lower) that are required to summon the Lich. Each is found in a different ruin type. The Nameless Hanged can also sell them for Corruption.
- Bone staffs: the five staffs are the Lich's drop. They are the Staff of Zatraq'gul (white), Staff of Nortoq'gul (black), Staff of Azrata'gul (red), Staff of Mynakta'gul (cyan) and Staff of Xaphnok'gul (purple). Each one summons an owner-bound Ghouling when used.
- Corrupted Champion Spawn Egg: spawns a Lich in the world.
Tips
- Have the three Ominous Bone Staff Fragments and a Vial of Blood with at least 0.8 blood before going to the altar. The altar will not start the fight without them.
- Creative-mode players are not blinded or teleported by the hunt. Survival players should plan for the blindness, which lasts 80 ticks and is reapplied every 50 ticks during the hunt.
- Ghoul summons slow down after 6000 ticks of fight time and stop after 12000 ticks. A long fight produces more summons than a short one.
- The Lich's hunt is the most dangerous part of the fight. Its attack damage rises to 70 while it is attacking, so avoid melee range during the hunt.
