The Bone Dagger, Vial of Blood, Fire Brazier, Soul Fire Brazier and Candle Holder are small utility items and blocks added by The Graveyard. The dagger and vial are the only source of the blood that the Lich fight requires, and the braziers are light sources that the Wraith puts out. The candle holder is decorative only. In Fear Nightfall, the Graveyard structures are placed about 30% closer together than in the base mod, and shared structure sets give them 6× weight, so the mod's structures are common in the pack's horror areas.
Obtaining
The braziers and the candle holder are crafted from Dark Iron. The Bone Dagger is crafted from bone. The Vial of Blood has no recipe and can only be obtained by killing a villager with a Bone Dagger (see below).
Crafting
The Bone Dagger is crafted from three bones in a vertical column:
Ingredients for each crafted item:
- Fire Brazier: 5 Dark Iron Ingots and one dark oak log (the recipe accepts 144 alternative log items).
- Soul Fire Brazier: 5 Dark Iron Ingots and one Soul Soil.
- Candle Holder: 2 Dark Iron Ingots in a vertical column.
Bone Dagger
The Bone Dagger is a stone-tier sword. Killing an Acolyte with it grants the Turning the tables advancement. Its main non-combat use is the blood collection described under Graveyard Miscellaneous.
Vial of Blood
The Vial of Blood is a stack-size-1 item. To obtain one, a player must hold an empty glass bottle in the offhand and kill a villager with the Bone Dagger. The bottle is consumed and a Vial of Blood is added to the inventory, placed in the offhand slot if the bottle stack is now empty. Obtaining the item grants the Blood "Donation" advancement. Because the vial is not craftable, a player who wants more than one must repeat the process.
Usage
Bone Dagger
The Bone Dagger breaks some blocks much faster than a normal sword does. Its break speed is 30× against cobwebs, tinted glass and stained glass. Against blocks in the sword_efficient tag it is 1.5×, and against all other blocks it is 1×. The 30× speed applies only to this item.
Vial of Blood
When a villager dies to a Bone Dagger hit while a Vial of Blood is in the offhand, the vial gains 0.1 blood. The blood level is stored as a number below 0.9. A kill that would bring the level to 0.9 or above is not stored, so the vial stops filling at that point. The tooltip shows the level out of 8 (for example, "Blood level: 4/8"), and it reads "Blood level: full" when the stored value is between 0.8 and 0.9. The vial's model changes with its blood level.
A vial with blood level 0.8 or more is one of the requirements for summoning the Lich at an altar. The other requirements and the full fight are covered on Corruption, Vial of Blood and Summoning the Lich.
By default, only villagers count as blood sources (the isBloodCollectableEntity option). The option is a list, so other entity types can be added in the configuration.
Braziers
The Fire Brazier and the Soul Fire Brazier share one block class and differ only in their model and flame particles. Both have a lit state. A brazier is lit when a burning projectile hits it, such as a flaming arrow, and a lit brazier emits light level 11. A right-click with an empty hand on a lit brazier extinguishes it, with smoke and a sound. Water extinguishes a lit brazier, and a brazier placed in water becomes waterlogged. Braziers are not pathfindable, so mobs route around them.
Braziers are added to the minecraft:candles tag, so mods that treat candles specially also treat braziers as candles. The Wraith treats lit braziers as light sources to put out. Breaking a brazier drops the brazier itself, and a custom name set on it is kept on the dropped item.
Candle Holder
The Candle Holder is a horizontal block with four orientations, facing north, south, east or west. It has no light state and no right-click behaviour. It drops itself when broken, and it is waterloggable. Because it is never lit, the Wraith does not affect it. It is purely decorative.
