Gravestones are decorative headstone blocks added by The Graveyard. There are thirteen variants, one for each stone or brick material the mod uses. Each is a standing block entity with editable text on its front and back, so players can write names or messages on them. They suit graveyards and memorials built in the horror biomes of a Fear Nightfall world.

Gravestones are decor only. They hold no items and have no function in the mod's systems beyond their text.

Obtaining

Gravestones are obtained by crafting or from the mod's graveyard structures.

Crafting

Each variant is crafted from seven of its base block. The recipe table below is generated from the recipe data.

The plain gravestone uses Polished Basalt. The Cracked Polished Blackstone Gravestone uses Cracked Polished Blackstone Bricks rather than blackstone. The other variants use the base block named in their title, such as Stone Bricks, Mossy Stone Bricks or Quartz Bricks.

Natural generation

Gravestones are placed inside several of the mod's graveyard structures. They appear in the small, medium and large Graveyards, the small desert, savanna and mountain graves, the Haunted House, the mushroom grave and the dead tree structure. Large graveyards use gravestones in the most templates. The pack places the mod's structures about 30% closer together and weights them 6 times higher where they share a structure set with other mods' structures, so gravestones are more common in the horror biomes of a Fear Nightfall world.

Usage

Placement

A gravestone must sit on a solid block. If the block directly below it is removed, the gravestone disappears. Its facing follows the player's horizontal direction when it is placed, and it can be rotated or mirrored with the usual block tools. The block is waterlogged when placed in a water source.

The collision shape depends on facing. A gravestone facing north or south is 16 units wide on the east-west axis and 8 units thick on the north-south axis. A gravestone facing east or west is 8 units thick on the east-west axis and 16 units wide on the north-south axis. Breaking a gravestone returns the block as an item, and no tool is required to break it.

Editing text

Right-clicking a placed gravestone opens a dedicated gravestone edit screen. This screen replaces the vanilla sign editor for gravestones only, so other signs in the pack keep the vanilla editor. Text can be written on the front and the back of the stone.

Hardness

The variants differ in how quickly they break. The sandstone, red sandstone and quartz bricks gravestones are the softest, with hardness 0.8 and blast resistance 0.8. The deepslate gravestone is the hardest, with hardness 3 and blast resistance 6. The remaining variants have hardness 1.5 or 2 and blast resistance 6. The full values are in the table in the Items section.

Items

Each variant has the same shape and function. Only the material and its hardness differ.
