Sleepy Hollows is an overworld biome added by the Sleepy Hollows mod. It is a sub-biome of taiga and forest biomes. It is the home of the mod's gravestone blocks and hollow wood trees, and its Infected Zombie is the most common hostile mob in the biome. In Fear Nightfall it is a horror biome with a higher spawn weight, and the mod's Sanity meter drains the player while they stay in it.

The biome is a dark, wet forest of hollow trees and graves. Its main hazard is the mod's Sanity meter, which is described in Sanity.

Description

The biome has the look of an old, neglected graveyard in a forest. Its grass is a muted olive green and its foliage is dark green. Water is near black and the sky is black, so the biome is at its most oppressive after dark. Its fog is pale blue. While the player is inside the biome, it replaces the current background music with its own track.

Surface rules place gravestone blocks, cobbled gravestone, coarse dirt and grass in the biome only. The result is patches of stone graves scattered among the grass. Most trees are hollow trees built from Hollow Wood, which has logs, planks and leaves. Spectral lanterns hang from the leaves of some trees, at most two per tree and at least four blocks apart. Fallen hollow trees lie across the ground in places.

Generation

Sleepy Hollows replaces part of the surface of five vanilla biomes: Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Dark Forest and Forest. The biome has a temperature of 0.5 and a downfall of 1, so it rains. It covers about 1.89% of the land surface in Fear Nightfall. A cave variant of the biome also appears underground at y=-30, where it covers about 0.25% of the cave area.

The biome is a horror biome in Fear Nightfall and has a 6× weight in the biome lists that include it. It was very rare in the stock setup, and the pack raised its frequency.

Features

  • Hollow trees: the biome's main trees, with Hollow Wood logs and leaves. Spectral lanterns hang from their leaves.
  • Fallen hollow trees: logs lying on the ground.
  • Gravestones: boulders and slabs of Gravestone Blocks, and tombstone patches. Tombstones can be activated, as described in Sleepy Hollows Miscellaneous.
  • Spectral pumpkin piles: clusters of Spectral Pumpkins.
  • Plant patches: flower and grass patches, plus dusk berry bushes. Infected flowers grow among the flower patches. Standing on or in an infected flower applies the Infected effect. See Sleepy Hollows Plants.
  • Ores: the standard overworld ore set, plus infested stone.
  • Cemetery: the Sleepy Hollows Cemetery structure is the biome's village-like settlement.

Under the pack's Lootr setup, coffins in the biome's structures are shared containers rather than per-player containers, so the loot in an opened coffin is gone for everyone.

Mobs and structures

The Infected Zombie is the most common monster in the biome, with a spawn weight of 95. The table below lists all monsters, water creatures and ambient spawns, and the structures that can generate here.

The biome's monster list also includes a Witch (weight 25), a Bat (ambient) and several fish. The Headless Horseman (listed in game as the Horseman) and the Fleeing Pumpkin Head have no natural spawns in the biome. The Horseman is summoned at a pedestal with a ritual, and the Fleeing Pumpkin Head appears only during the Horseman fight.

The Sleepy Hollows Cemetery structure generates only in this biome. The pack's horror structures are placed about 30% closer together than in the stock setup, so structures such as graveyards, witch huts and dungeons appear more often near the biome.

Tips

  • Carry Luminous Water or Spectral Pumpkin Pie before you enter the biome for long periods. Each Sanity food item restores a fixed amount of Sanity, as listed in Sanity.
  • Wear the Hauntbound Armor set. Each worn piece blocks a share of Sanity loss, and the full set gives Mental Fortitude.
  • Sanity drains twice as fast at night as during the day. Stay near a lantern or another sanity light source after dusk.
  • Infected Zombies and the Fleeing Pumpkin Head are the biome's main combat threats. The Fleeing Pumpkin Head summons Infected Zombies and skeletons, and it blinds nearby players.
  • The Horseman's ritual needs Luminous Essence and a pedestal. The Horseman does not spawn in the biome on its own.
  • Coffins are shared containers under the pack's Lootr setup, so opened coffins cannot be looted again by other players.
