The Sleepy Hollows Cemetery is an overworld structure added by the Sleepy Hollows mod. It is a walled burial ground of gravestones, tombs, crypts and paths, and it generates only inside the Sleepy Hollows biome. Its coffins hold the mod's main early-game loot, including Spectral Essence and Spectral Pumpkin Pie, and its starting piece is a Pedestal, the block that starts the Headless Horseman ritual. Its monsters are most active at night, when the biome's sanity drain is at its highest.

Generation

The cemetery spawns in the Overworld and only in the Sleepy Hollows biome. The biome is a sub-biome carved out of Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Dark Forest and Forest, so the structure appears wherever those forests have been replaced by the biome. Its placement is a random-spread structure set with a spacing of 22 chunks and a separation of 11 chunks. The mod's default spacing is about 31 chunks; the pack's Sparse Structures setting, which places horror structures about 30% closer together, reduces it to 22. In test sampling the structure was found about 3 times per 26 km².

The structure uses a jigsaw generator with a depth of 7 and is blended into the terrain around it (the "beard thin" terrain adaptation), so the cemetery sits on the surface rather than cutting into it. A typical cemetery measures about 195 by 72 by 199 blocks. Outside the structure, the biome's surface rules place gravestone blocks and coarse dirt on the ground of the biome. The biome's hollow trees hang Spectral Lanterns, which are the main sanity light source in the biome.

Layout

The cemetery is built from about 37 template pieces. They include:

  • Pedestal start piece. The generator begins here, and the Pedestal is the block where a player right-clicks Luminous Essence to start the Horseman ritual.
  • Paths and gates. Stone paths connect the pieces. Gates and fence pieces wall off the grounds.
  • Buildings, tombs and crypts. These are the enclosed pieces. The coffins are found inside them; a coffin is a 54-slot container that opens like a chest and is not a bed.
  • Fence pieces. Wrought Iron Fence is among the blocks used for enclosure.

Inhabitants

The structure places no mobs in its own pieces. Monsters in and around the cemetery come from the biome:

  • Infected Zombie spawns naturally in the biome at any time of day. It has a spawn weight of 95 with groups of up to 4, which makes it the most common monster in the biome.
  • Witches spawn at weight 25, and bats at weight 8.
  • Tombstones in the biome activate at night when a player is within 16 blocks. An activated tombstone releases up to 3 "Hauntbound Guardian" skeletons when used. Each skeleton has a Spectral Jack o'Lantern head and a Spectral War Axe, and each equipment slot has a 30% chance of Hauntbound armor.

The cemetery's bosses are not generated here. The Headless Horseman only appears when a player right-clicks the Pedestal with Luminous Essence, and its Fleeing Pumpkin Head only appears during the Horseman fight.

Loot

The cemetery's coffins draw from one loot table, sleepy_hollows:chests/coffin. The generated table below lists every entry and its chance. The most useful entries are:

  • Spectral Pumpkin Pie (63%). This is the best sanity food in the mod, restoring +10 Sanity and always edible.
  • Hollow Planks (71%) and Hollow Sapling (40%). These are the building material and sapling of the Hollow Wood set.
  • Spectral Essence (23%). This is the mod's core currency. Hauntbound armor uses it as its material ingredient.
  • Iron Sword (50%). This is the only plain weapon in the table.

Coffins are shared containers. Under Lootr, the pack's per-player loot mod, Sleepy Hollows coffins are not made per-player, so items taken from a coffin are gone for everyone. Plan a group visit accordingly.

Tips

Enter the cemetery in daylight if possible. Inside the biome, Sanity drops by 1 point every 5 seconds by day and 2 points every 5 seconds at night, and the Infected status drains it further. Bring food that restores sanity, such as Luminous Water, Dusk Berries and Spectral Pumpkin Pie, and wear Hauntbound Armor. Each worn piece prevents 25% of each point of sanity loss, and a full set grants Mental Fortitude, which blocks sanity loss entirely while it is active.

Stay near light. Spectral Lanterns and other sanity light blocks (vanilla lanterns, soul lanterns and jack o'lanterns included) within 4 blocks horizontally and -2 to +3 blocks vertically of a player stop the biome's sanity drain.

Do not right-click the Pedestal with Luminous Essence unless the fight is planned. The Horseman spawns 5 blocks north of the Pedestal, and the ritual is blocked only while another Horseman is within 64 blocks. Its death drops the Reins of the Spectral Horse and 3 Loot Bags, so the fight is worth the risk when the set is in place.

Right-clicking an infected flower with Luminous Water cleanses the infected flowers within a 4-block cube, and Splash Luminous Water removes the Infected effect from anything it hits. Infected flowers apply the effect to any player standing on or in them, so clear them before walking through.
