The Fishing Junk and Treasure items are the non-fish catches that Aquaculture adds to vanilla fishing. They include the three loot boxes (Box, Lockbox and Treasure Chest), the Message In A Bottle, the Tin Can, the Driftwood and a few other common catches. The Treasure Chest is the only one of these items that gives diamonds or emeralds. Driftwood and Tin Can are mainly used as fuel and crafting or smelting materials.

Obtaining

These items come from the fishing loot table, which Aquaculture injects into the vanilla minecraft:gameplay/fishing table (see Fishing). Every vanilla fishing rod rolls this table, so the items are available without any Aquaculture rod. Aquaculture's own Fishing Rods use the same table.

The junk pool contains these entries (weight in parentheses; a higher weight means a higher chance):

Item Weight Notes
Tin Can 10
Driftwood 10
Algae 10 Only in biomes that are not ocean or beach
Seagrass 10 Only in aquatic, beach or swamp biomes that are not snowy, excluding deep frozen ocean
Kelp 9 Only in ocean or beach biomes that are not hot or snowy
Box 6
Message In A Bottle 5
Fish Bones 4
Goldfish 4 Item only; there is no matching entity
Lockbox 4
Treasure Chest 1 Rarest of the junk entries

The junk pool has a quality of -2. The fish pool has a quality of -1. Vanilla Luck of the Sea adjusts the effective weight of entries by their quality, so the enchantment makes the boxes and the junk less likely relative to fish. The vanilla junk entries are kept in the same table, but their weights are not in the Aquaculture data, so the exact odds of any one catch depend on vanilla's weights as well. The fish weight of 85 and the junk weight of 10 are the Aquaculture values.

The loot is rolled by the fishing hook, so the Hooks and Bait pages and the Fishing Lines and Bobbers page describe the other parts of the rod setup. The Tackle Box stores those parts and does not hold any of this loot.

Usage

Loot boxes

The Box, Lockbox and Treasure Chest are right-click containers. Right-clicking one opens it and gives one item from its table. Leftover loot goes to the player's inventory or is dropped on the ground if the inventory is full. The boxes are stackable to 64.

  • Box rolls one entry from a table of 50 weighted entries with a total weight of 98. Most entries are common vanilla items: stone, gravel, planks, saplings, logs, coal, charcoal, sticks, leather armour pieces, bones, rotten flesh and string. Its entries have weights of 1 to 5, so the common items are the ones with weight 3 or more. See the loot table below.
  • Lockbox rolls from 12 entries with a total weight of 100. The entries are iron ingot (8), gold ingot (7), golden apple (5), dandelion (8), redstone (8), book (10), paper (10), compass (10), clock (10), glowstone dust (7), gunpowder (10) and quartz (7).
  • Treasure Chest rolls from 4 entries with a total weight of 100: iron ingot (40), gold ingot (30), diamond (15) and emerald (15). This is the only box that gives diamonds and emeralds, so it is the most useful of the three despite being the rarest catch.

The Neptunium settings do not change these three tables.

Message In A Bottle

Right-clicking a Message In A Bottle shows a random flavour message from the mod's translation keys. The message index is drawn from 0 up to the messageInABottleAmount config value, which defaults to 29 and can be set from 0 to 255.

The index can also be 0, but there is no aquaculture.message0 key in the language file. A bottle with index 0 shows the raw key aquaculture.message0 instead of a message. With the default setting, 1 bottle in 30 shows the raw key. If the setting is 0, every bottle shows the raw key.

Driftwood and Tin Can

  • Driftwood is a fuel. It burns for 600 ticks in a furnace, which is enough to smelt 3 items. It is also the material for two recipes: it crafts into 4 Oak Planks, and in a cutting board it gives a stripped oak log and a tree bark.
  • Tin Can smelts into 7 iron nuggets in 150 ticks in a furnace, or in 75 ticks in a blast furnace. It is the simplest way to turn a common catch into iron nuggets.
