Fishing Rods are the tools used to cast a hook and catch fish. Two mods add them to the pack. Tide replaces the vanilla Fishing Rod by default and adds thirteen rods of its own, from the Stone Fishing Rod up to the Midas Fishing Rod. Aquaculture adds four rods: Iron, Golden, Diamond and Neptunium. Tide rods take a hook, line, bobber and bait through the Angling Table, while Aquaculture rods hold the same four pieces in fixed slots of their own. Rod choice matters for how many accessories a rod can carry, how durable it is, and which fish it can reach.
Obtaining
Tide's Stone, Iron, Golden, Crystal, Diamond, Netherite and Midas rods can be crafted. Aquaculture's Iron, Golden, Diamond and Neptunium rods are crafted from common materials. The remaining Tide rods (Echo, Prismarine, Sunflower, Village, Blazing and Honeycomb) have no recipe and are obtained from loot, drops or trades.

Smithing Table · SmithingTide's Stone Fishing Rod is crafted from cobblestone and string. The Iron, Golden, Crystal and Diamond rods are smithing upgrades that take string, the previous rod tier and an iron ingot, gold ingot, amethyst shard or diamond respectively. The Netherite rod takes a smithing template, a Diamond Fishing Rod and a netherite ingot. The Midas Fishing Rod takes string, a Golden Fishing Rod and a Midas Fish.

Casting and fishing
Holding right-click charges a cast for 25 ticks when the holdToCast option is on, which is the default. Fishing speed and luck come from three sources: the Lure and Luck of the Sea enchantments (Lure, Luck of the Sea), the bait in the rod's slots, and perks built into the rod. For Tide rods, the base bite time is 200–600 ticks, multiplied by the medium: 1.0 in water, 1.6 in lava and 1.8 in the void. Lure reduces this time, and bait speed adds to the reduction.
Each catch can start a reel minigame. The bar speed is set by the fish, and lines change the difficulty: a Copper Fishing Line reduces fish speed by 10%, an Iron Line reduces catch difficulty by 15%, a Golden Line reduces speed by 5% and adds 1 luck, and a Diamond Line reduces catch difficulty by 25%.
Rod slots, bait and durability
Each Tide rod has a set number of bait slots:
| Rod | Bait slots |
|---|---|
| Vanilla Fishing Rod (replaced), Stone | 1 |
| Iron, Golden, Crystal, Diamond, Netherite | 2 |
| Echo, Prismarine, Midas | 3 |
| Village, Blazing | 4 |
| Honeycomb (Beeline) | 5 |
| Sunflower (Suncatcher) | 6 |
Every bait slot applies at once, so speed and luck are added together. Two stacks of the same bait type cannot share a rod, and one bait is used from each slot per catch. Breaking a rod returns its accessories to the player. Base durability for each rod is listed in the Items table below. The durability multiplier in the pack's configuration is 1.0.
Aquaculture rods have four slots: a hook, a bait, a fishing line and a bobber. Bait speed adds to the rod's lure speed. Each retrieve costs durability: 3 for pulling an item entity, 5 for pulling a mob, 1 for a catch, and 2 if the bobber lands on the ground.
Special rods
- Midas Fishing Rod: boosts luck by 1 and belongs to the luck-boosting rod tag. A catch of a Midas Fish with this rod earns an advancement.
- Netherite and Blazing Fishing Rods: lava-proof, so they can be used for lava fishing with a Lavaproof Hook.
- Prismarine Fishing Rod: gives +1 speed and +1 luck while it is raining.
- Neptunium Fishing Rod: the Aquaculture rod with the highest durability, at 1000. It adds 100 to lure speed, up to a cap of 500. Its tooltip, Neptune's Song, reads "Fish are more likely to bite".
Hooks and lines
Hooks control which fish a rod can catch. Tide's Lavaproof Hook is needed for lava fishing, and its Void Hook is needed for void fishing. Aquaculture hooks have their own effects: the Light Hook launches the bobber further, the Heavy Hook shorter, the Note Hook plays a sound as a fish approaches, the Redstone Hook gives a 35–70 tick catch window, and the Double Hook has a 10% chance to roll a second catch. The Gold Hook adds 1 luck. The Nether Star Hook works in water, and in lava too when the aq2lava mod is loaded. See Hooks and Fishing Lines and Bobbers for details.

Fear Nightfall changes
In this pack, the Blazing Fishing Rod is not in the chests of YUNG's replacement temples, fortresses and strongholds, so it is only found in the vanilla-style chests listed above. Tide, Iron's and Traveler's Backpack loot was added to the mapped chests in those structures.
