Bait is the consumable accessory for fishing rods. Two mods add bait to the pack. Tide adds five bait items for its own rods: Bait, Lucky Bait, Magnetic Bait, Incandescent Bait and Abyss Bait. Aquaculture adds the Worm, Leech and Minnow for its own rods. Tide's bait mainly shortens the wait for a bite and changes the luck of catches, and Magnetic Bait also affects crates.

Obtaining

Tide's bait is crafted, and the recipes are listed below.

The basic Bait is made from a plant from the bait_plants tag (any crop, mushroom or small flower), Rotten Flesh, Cerebrage Seeds and Bone Meal, and yields four items. Lucky Bait and Magnetic Bait are made from Bait plus other materials. Incandescent Bait is made from an Incandescent Larva and Abyss Bait from a Pale Clubfish, so those two depend on obtaining those mobs first.

The Worm, Leech and Minnow are Aquaculture items. The Minnow is also a fish that can be caught.

Usage

Bait goes into the bait slots of a fishing rod, and the Angling Table is used to put accessories into those slots. Each Tide rod type has a fixed number of bait slots: Stone and Iron rods have 1, Golden, Crystal, Diamond and Netherite rods have 2, Echo, Prismarine and Midas rods have 3, Village and Blazing rods have 4, Honeycomb rods have 5, and Sunflower rods have 6. When Tide overrides the vanilla fishing rod, which is the default, that rod has 1 bait slot.

Tide's bait stacks. The speed and luck of every bait in a rod's slots are added together and applied at once. A rod cannot hold two stacks of the same bait type. One bait item is consumed from each occupied slot for every fish caught. Bait is not consumed when a catch is a crate or a loot item.

Bait values

Bait Speed bonus Luck bonus Notes
Bait +2 0 Basic bait
Lucky Bait 0 +2 Luck only
Magnetic Bait 0 0 Raises crate weight in the catch pool
Incandescent Bait +1 0
Abyss Bait +2 0

Speed bonus feeds the bite timer. Tide's bite time is a random 200 to 600 ticks, multiplied by a liquid factor (water 1.0, lava 1.6, void 1.8). It is then reduced by a lure term, and bait speed is added to that lure term before the reduction is applied. The result is never less than 10 ticks. Luck feeds the catch selection, where it changes which fish, loot and crate entries pass their conditions.

Magnetic Bait affects the catch pool directly. When a rod holds it, the weight of crate entries is multiplied by 5.0. The default crate weight is 4.0, so a rod with Magnetic Bait gives crates a weight of 20 in the pool before other modifiers. While a Magnetic Bait rod is bobbing in the water, the hook also emits ominous particles, which is a visual cue and has no effect on catches.

Aquaculture bait

Aquaculture's bait works on Aquaculture's rods, which have a bait slot among their 4 rod slots. Each bait adds +1 to the lure speed of the rod. Lure speed is the Lure enchantment level times 20, plus the bait modifier, plus 100 for the Neptunium rod, and is capped at 500.

Bait Durability
Worm 20
Leech 35
Minnow 50

Each successful catch uses durability first, so a worm lasts 20 catches, a leech 35 and a minnow 50. Creative players do not use up bait.
