The Cerebrage is a food item added by Jaden's Nether Expansion (netherexp). It restores hunger and saturation, and it is mainly used as an ingredient in soups, cooked meals and sandwiches. Cerebrage is the main product of the Cerebrage Skull, a block that grows on a skeleton skull planted with Cerebrage Seeds.

The item is part of a small growth loop. Cerebrage Seeds turn a skeleton skull into a Cerebrage Skull, the skull grows through four stages over random ticks or bone meal, and harvesting a mature skull returns Cerebrage. Bone meal can also make a fully grown skull sprout a Brain Tree. Fear Nightfall does not change Cerebrage or the Cerebrage Skull, and the pack's change list has no entries for them.

Obtaining

Cerebrage cannot be crafted. It comes from Cerebrage Skulls and Cerebrage Kale. No biome or placed feature in the mod's data places Cerebrage Skulls, so the skull has to be planted by a player.

Cerebrage Skull

A Cerebrage Skull is created by using Cerebrage Seeds on a floor skeleton skull. The skull keeps its rotation and starts at stage 0. The skull has no item form, so it cannot be placed from the inventory.

• Growth: each random tick the skull advances one stage with a 10% chance (config cerebrageGrowthChance). Stages 0 to 3 are growth stages, and stage 3 is the harvestable stage.
• Bone meal: on stages 0 to 2, bone meal succeeds with a 1 in 8 chance and advances the skull one stage. On stage 3 or later, bone meal succeeds with a 1 in 2 chance. If the space above the skull is air and the config cerebrageGrowsBrainTrees is on (the default), the skull moves to stage 4 and grows a Brain Tree.
• Right-click harvest: a skull on stage 3 yields 3 to 5 Cerebrage and resets to stage 1. The roll uses the config values 3 and 6 with 6 excluded. A right-click on stage 3 or 4 also has a 5% chance (config cerebrageSeedsDropChance) to drop one extra Cerebrage Seeds. On stage 4 the right-click fails while a block sits above the skull.
• Breaking: breaking a skull drops the skeleton skull and one Cerebrage Seeds. A stage 3 skull also drops 3 to 6 Cerebrage, which is a wider range than the right-click harvest.

Cerebrage Kale

Cerebrage Kale is a small cluster block. Breaking it with shears drops the kale block itself. Breaking it without shears has a 10% chance to drop 1 or 2 Cerebrage.

Brain Tree

A stage 4 Cerebrage Skull grows a Brain Tree when bone meal is used on it. Growing a Brain Tree grants the advancement Big Brain Time to players in range.

Usage

Cerebrage is a food with 5 hunger and a saturation modifier of 0.6, which gives 6 saturation. The item carries the c:foods/cabbage tag, so it can fill cabbage-type slots in recipes. The soups Chicken Soup, Vegetable Soup and Pumpkin Soup each accept it in that slot, and the Cooking Pot recipes for Pumpkin Soup and Vegetable Noodles require it.

Cerebrage is also a crafting ingredient for Mixed Salad, Mutton Wrap and Bacon Sandwich, the last two being sandwiches and wraps. Outside cooking, Bait is made from a bait plant, Rotten Flesh, Cerebrage Seeds and Bone Meal. Stacked Bones uses Cerebrage in the Roasted Bone recipe, and roasted bones are fed to a Stampede to befriend it. Cerebrage Seeds are also tagged as food for the Shima Enaga from Critters and Companions.

Items

Cerebrage Seeds plant a skeleton skull and drop from Cerebrage Skulls. Cerebrage Kale is the decorative cluster block described above. Cerebrage Claret Stem and Cerebrage Claret Hyphae are log blocks from the Claret Wood set. Four stems in a 2x2 crafting grid make three hyphae.
