The Sorrowsquash and Sorroweed are a family of plant blocks added by Jaden's Nether Expansion to the Soul Sand Valley biome. Sorroweed is a low ground cover that spreads across soul sand and soul soil, and Sorrowsquash is a pumpkin-like fruit that grows on a stem and can fall onto creatures below it. Together with the Carved Sorrowsquash and the Ghoul o'Lantern, they give the pack's Soul Sand Valley a distinct plant cover and a hazard that players must watch overhead.

The Sorrowsquash Pasture is a sub-biome of Soul Sand Valley, and it is where Sorroweed grows naturally. Soul Sand Valley is also the home of the pack's horror mobs, including the Apparition, Ecto Slab, Stampede and Vessel, so the pasture should be treated as dangerous terrain.

Obtaining

  • Sorroweed generates naturally in the Sorrowsquash Pasture. It forms vegetation patches on the floor of the biome, on soul sand, soul soil and ecto soul sand. A patch has a horizontal radius of 1 to 2 blocks and a vertical range of 5. Each patch column has a 0.75 chance to place an extra edge column, and each spot inside the patch has a 0.6 chance to hold vegetation: air (weight 45), crimson roots (weight 25) or soul swirls (weight 10).
  • Sorrowsquash does not generate naturally. It is grown from a pumpkin stem. When a pumpkin stem is placed on soul sand, ecto soul sand or Sorroweed, the placement is converted into a Sorrowsquash Stem. The stem then grows into a Sorrowsquash fruit (see the Sorrowsquash section under Usage).
  • Carved Sorrowsquash is made by using shears on a Sorrowsquash. The Sorrowsquash is replaced by Carved Sorrowsquash, which faces the side the player clicked, and the shears lose 1 durability. The action drops 4 pumpkin seeds.
  • Ghoul o'Lantern is made by crafting (see below).
  • Breaking any of these blocks drops the block itself, and the loot tables survive explosions.

Usage

Sorroweed

Sorroweed is a ground cover with a hardness of 0.5 and a blast resistance of 0.5. It is mined fastest with a hoe. It can be bonemealed when the block above it is air. Bonemeal grows a new Sorroweed vegetation patch of the same shape as the natural one, on the same kinds of ground.

Sorroweed also counts as a soul crop mutation block, which is what allows pumpkin stems to convert into Sorrowsquash Stems when they are placed on it.

Sorrowsquash

Sorrowsquash is a fruit block with a hardness of 1 and a blast resistance of 1. It is mined fastest with an axe. The fruit grows on a Sorrowsquash Stem. On each random tick, an unattached stem head has a 0.2 chance to attach a Sorrowsquash to a random horizontal air block next to it. Otherwise, while its age is below 25, it has a 0.5 chance to extend the stem into an air or suitable block.

When the stem head holding a fruit is broken, and the Should Sorrowsquash Fall option is enabled, the fruit falls as a falling block. Anything it lands on takes "sorrowsquished" damage, with the damage multiplier and maximum set by the "Sorrowsquished" Damage Multiplier and "Sorrowsquished" Maximum Damage options. The death message is "was sorrowsquished".

Sorrowsquash can be bonemealed when the Sorrowsquash Tainting option is enabled and the block below it is soul sand, soul soil or ecto soul sand. Bonemeal then places a Sorroweed patch. Shears used on it give Carved Sorrowsquash, as described above.

Carved Sorrowsquash and Ghoul o'Lantern

Carved Sorrowsquash is a directional block with the same hardness and tools as Sorrowsquash. It can be bonemealed under the same conditions as Sorrowsquash and places the same Sorroweed patch.

Carved Sorrowsquash and a soul torch craft into a Ghoul o'Lantern. The recipe is a vertical 2-by-1 shape, with the carved fruit above the torch. The Ghoul o'Lantern gives off light level 10, which is the same as a lit jack o'lantern. It is also a directional block like the carved fruit.

Crafting ingredient

Sorrowsquash can be made into 4 pumpkin seeds in a shapeless crafting recipe. The recipe is unlocked by an advancement. It is the only crafting use of Sorrowsquash in the pack.
