The Skull Blocks and Candles group is a set of items and blocks added by Jaden's Nether Expansion that combine skulls, bones and flames into light sources and one riding tool. It contains Skull on a Stick, a tool that speeds up a Stampede while the player rides it; the Soul Candle, a candle that is lit with fire and emits light; Skeleton Skull Candles, which are a skeleton skull with a candle on top; and Skull blocks in plain, burning and soul-burning forms, each with a wither version made from wither bones. Every item in the group is made by crafting or stonecutting.

Obtaining

Skull blocks can be cut at a stonecutter: a Bone Block or a Stacked Bones block gives a Skull Block, and a Wither Bone Block or Stacked Wither Bones block gives a Wither Skull Block. The other items are made by crafting.

Usage

Each item has a separate role. The sections below cover them in order of use, and the numbers come from the mod's code.

Skull on a Stick

Skull on a Stick is a tool with 100 durability and the Uncommon rarity. It has no effect unless the player is riding a Stampede. When it is used on a Stampede, the Stampede gains a +0.2 movement speed boost for 40 ticks (2 seconds) and the tool loses 1 durability. When the durability runs out, the tool turns back into a fishing rod. Stampedes spawn in Soul Sand Valley.

Soul Candle

The Soul Candle is a candle block that holds up to 3 candles in one block space and has a hardness of 1. It is made from a string placed above a soul fire base block, which is Soul Sand or Soul Soil.

• An unlit Soul Candle is lit by Flint and Steel or a Fire Charge. Flint and Steel loses 1 durability per use.
• A lit Soul Candle is put out by a right click with an empty hand, if the player may build there.
• A projectile that is on fire lights an unlit candle when it hits it.
• A waterlogged candle cannot be lit.
• The light level is 3 per candle when lit, so a single candle gives light level 3, two give 6 and three give 9. An unlit candle gives no light.

Skeleton skull candles

Skeleton Skull Candles are made by combining a skeleton skull with a candle, and the candle type sets the variant. A plain candle makes the Skeleton Skull Candle, which has light level 14 and uses a small flame particle. A Soul Candle makes the Soul Skeleton Skull Candle, which has light level 10 and uses soul fire particles. Both have hardness 1 and blast resistance 1, require a pickaxe, and are always lit; they have no lit state of their own.

Skull blocks

Skull blocks are decorative horizontal-facing blocks. The plain Skull Block has hardness 2 and blast resistance 2, and the Wither Skull Block has hardness 4.5 and blast resistance 9. Both require a pickaxe.

Burning skull blocks are made by adding a torch to a skull block. The burning versions are light sources that send flame particles out of their front face:

• Burning Skull Block: light level 15, made with a torch.
• Soul Burning Skull Block: light level 10, made with a soul torch.
• Treacherous variants: made with a Treacherous Torch (see Treacherous Flame). The treacherous burning skull block has light level 9, and the treacherous skeleton skull candle has light level 13.

The wither versions follow the same pattern and keep the higher hardness and blast resistance of the wither skull block.
