The Treacherous Flame is the red-light lighting family added by Jaden's Nether Expansion (netherexp). It covers the Treacherous Torch, Candle, Lantern, Campfire and Wax, the skull blocks that burn with its flame, and the Treacherous Fire block that the flame produces on certain surfaces. The torches, the skull candle and the burning skull blocks use the Treacherous flame particle, and most of the family emits light level 9 or higher. The Spark of Treachery, which opens Brazier Chests, belongs to the same family.
Treacherous Fire is the hazard of the family. It is not an item and cannot be carried, but a living entity standing in it is set alight and takes heavy damage once its health falls to half or below.
Obtaining
Treacherous Wax is the base ingredient for every light in the family. It comes from the loot of Brazier Chests in Sanctum structures (Chapel and Sanctum). Treacherous Wax can also be applied to a skeleton, which turns it into a False Carcass (see Jaden's Nether Expansion for the Carcass mob).
Brazier Chests in Sanctum structures contain Treacherous Wax in their loot table. The hidden variant holds it in 29.0% of chests with an average stack of 4.0, and the exposed variant holds it in 21.3% of chests with an average stack of 4.1. A Brazier Chest stays locked until a Spark of Treachery is used on it. Because Brazier Chests are shared containers, Lootr cannot make them per-player in this pack, so every player who opens one competes for the same contents.
The advancement Rekindled Betrayal, which uses the Spark of Treachery as its icon, is earned by using flint and steel on a Cierge of Treachery.
Crafting
Treacherous Torches are made from a fuel (coal or fossil fuel), a stick and Treacherous Wax, yielding four torches per craft. Treacherous Candles use one String and two Treacherous Wax for six candles. A Treacherous Campfire needs three sticks, one Treacherous Wax and three dark oak logs, or one of their 144 alternatives. Treacherous Wax Blocks are made from eight honeycomb blocks and one Treacherous Wax.
Loot and drops
| Item | Chest loot table | Structures | Chance per chest | Avg. stack |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Treacherous Wax | netherexp:brazier_chest/hidden | Sanctum | 29.0% | 4.0 |
Treacherous Wax | netherexp:brazier_chest/exposed | Sanctum | 21.3% | 4.1 |
Usage
Treacherous Fire is placed when a fire block would appear on one of the blocks in the netherexp:treacherous_fire_base_blocks tag, which replaces normal fire on those surfaces. It emits light level 9 and uses a red palette. Any living entity inside it is set on fire for 18 ticks. Entities at or below half of their maximum health also take 8 damage (4 hearts) each time the block applies its effect. Entities above half health burn but take no damage from the block itself.
The Treacherous Torch and Treacherous Wall Torch emit light level 9 and use the Treacherous flame particle. The wall variant drops a Treacherous Torch when broken. The Treacherous Lantern has a hardness of 3.5, requires a pickaxe, can hang, and can be waterlogged. The Treacherous Campfire has a hardness of 2, requires an axe, emits light level 9 and can be lit as a signal fire. The Treacherous Candle has a hardness of 1 and emits light level 4 when lit.
The Treacherous Skeleton Skull Candle emits light level 13, the brightest light in the family. It is made by pairing a skeleton skull with a Treacherous Candle. See Skull Blocks and Candles for the other skull blocks.
The Treacherous Burning Skull Block (hardness 2, blast resistance 2) and the Treacherous Burning Wither Skull Block (hardness 4.5, blast resistance 9) both require a pickaxe and emit light level 9. Both are crafted with a Treacherous Torch. Their flame is a visual effect that rises from the skull's facing side.
Spark of Treachery
The Spark of Treachery is a rare, fire-resistant item that stacks to 64. Its one function is to open Brazier Chests. It is also the upgrade material in a smithing recipe: a Smithing Template, a Shotgun-Fist and a Spark of Treachery combine into one Pump-Charge Shotgun. The Spark is listed in the Sculk Grinder's grindable item tag.
