Antidotes are potions and thrown grenades added by Jaden's Nether Expansion. Each antidote carries one or more immunity effects. While an immunity effect is active on a player or mob, it cancels the matching vanilla effect the moment that effect is applied, so antidotes work as a defense against status effects such as Poison, Slowness or Weakness.
Antidotes are brewed in a brewing stand from an Awkward Antidote and one ingredient. Adding gunpowder turns a drinkable antidote into a Grenade Antidote that can be thrown. The antidote system is part of the Elysium API brewing framework, so the Elysium API mod must be present for the brewing recipes to work.
Obtaining
Antidotes are not generated in world chests or dropped by mobs. The Nether Expansion data adds no loot table entries for them. Every antidote is made by brewing:
- Brew a Water Bottle with a warped wart to make an Awkward Antidote. The Awkward Antidote has no effect of its own and is the base for every other variant.
- Brew the Awkward Antidote with one of the ingredients listed in the recipes below to make the named antidote. Each variant uses a different ingredient.
- Brew a finished antidote with gunpowder to convert it into a Grenade Antidote. The conversion copies the antidote's effects to the grenade.
No crafting recipe.
Potions stack to 16 in a slot.
Usage
Drinking
A drinkable antidote takes 48 ticks (2.4 seconds) to drink and uses the drink animation. When the drink finishes, the player receives the antidote's immunity effects. Each variant grants a single immunity effect, except the Trial Traps antidote, which grants three deterrent effects. Drinking an antidote awards the usual item-use statistic and consumes one antidote in survival mode.
The immunity effects last for the following durations:
- 2 minutes (2,400 ticks): Fire Resistance and Water Breathing.
- 10 minutes (12,000 ticks): Swiftness, Slowness, Strength, Leaping, Regeneration, Invisibility, Weakness and Poison.
- 15 minutes (18,000 ticks): Absorption, Decay, Resistance and Slow Falling. The Trial Traps antidote also lasts 15 minutes for each of its three deterrents.
- 18 minutes (21,600 ticks): Hunger and Levitation.
- 30 minutes (36,000 ticks): Darkness, Haste and Mining Fatigue.
The Decay antidote grants Wither Immunity, which cancels the Wither effect. The Brain Damage variant is defined only when the Oreganized mod is loaded. The pack does not include Oreganized, so that variant is not available.
Immunity mechanics
An immunity effect cancels its matching effect as soon as the matching effect is applied to the holder. The cancelled effect is removed and the immunity's remaining duration is reduced. The reduction is 600 ticks (30 seconds) multiplied by the level of the cancelled effect, so a Level II Poison costs 1,200 ticks of immunity. The config values are immunityConsumption (600) and amplifierScalesImmunityConsumption (on by default).
When the remaining duration drops to zero or below, the immunity ends and a short expiry sound plays. Otherwise the remaining time is kept and a negate sound plays. Each immunity protects against one matching effect only.
Grenade antidotes
A Grenade Antidote is thrown with a normal use action or dispensed from a dispenser. It has a fuse of 60 ticks (3 seconds) that starts when the grenade is thrown. If the grenade lands on a block it stops moving and the fuse resets to 60 ticks. A grenade that lands on a block with no solid block beneath it falls again.
When the fuse runs out, the grenade creates an antidote effect cloud. The cloud has a radius of 12 blocks at first and lasts 200 ticks (10 seconds). Its radius shrinks evenly to zero over that time. Every 5 ticks, the cloud applies the grenade's effects to every living entity inside it, including the thrower and any allies. The cloud is fire immune.
Deterrents
Deterrent effects are a separate kind of effect. Each deterrent removes its matching vanilla effect from living entities within a radius of 8 blocks per level (8 × (level + 1) blocks), checked every tick. The three deterrents match the vanilla Oozing, Weaving and Wind Charged effects. Each removal reduces the deterrent's remaining duration by 200 ticks (10 seconds).
The Trial Traps antidote is the only antidote that grants deterrents. It gives all three deterrents for 15 minutes each. Because deterrents act on every living entity in range, they cancel effects over an area rather than on a single target.
Items
Antidote is the drinkable potion form. Grenade Antidote is the thrown form made from an antidote and gunpowder. The table is generated from the game data.
