Silt and Siltmarram are a family of nether ground and plant blocks added by Jaden's Nether Expansion. Silt is a gravity block that takes the place of vanilla gravel in nether beaches and patches. Silt Flint Ore is a shovel-mined ore found inside silt, and it is a source of flint in the nether. Siltmarram is a beach grass-like plant with three variants (damp, moist and dry). Each variant matches the humidity of the biome it grows in, and a sheared plant keeps its variant for good.

Fear Nightfall does not change any of these blocks. Their spawn and placement settings are the mod's defaults, and the pack's horror-biome weighting applies only to Overworld biomes.

Obtaining

Silt and its related blocks generate naturally throughout the nether:

  • Gravel replacement. Nether gravel is replaced with silt. The vanilla ore_gravel_nether feature places silt instead of gravel, and a raw-generation feature turns gravel into silt in blobs of radius 12. That feature runs 64 times per chunk between Y 30 and Y 36.
  • Silt shorelines. Nether surface rules add silt beaches to the floor of every nether biome. Nether Wastes and Crimson Forest have broad silt beaches. Most other nether biomes have silt coves, which follow the shape of vanilla gravel shores. Black Ice Glaciers and Basalt Deltas have no shoreline at all.
  • Silt Flint Ore. The ore is placed in silt between Y 20 and Y 40, with 80 placement attempts per chunk in all nether biomes. The feature is controlled by the siltFlintOre config option, which is on by default.
  • Siltmarram. Each variant places 24 patches per chunk, across the full nether height. Patches sit on silt, gravel, sand or red sand. The siltmarram config option controls all three variants, and it is on by default.

The mod adds Silt Flint Ore so that flint remains obtainable in the nether after gravel shores are replaced with silt.

Usage

Silt

Silt falls like sand or gravel when nothing supports it, so it can collapse onto a player or into a cave. It is mined with a shovel, with a hardness of 0.4. Silt survives explosions and always drops itself. It stacks to 64.

Silt Flint Ore

Silt Flint Ore is mined with a shovel, with a hardness of 0.6. Without Silk Touch it drops 1 or 2 flint. The drop count uses the Fortune formula for ore drops, and explosion decay applies. With Silk Touch it drops the ore block itself. The ore generates with a 50% discard chance when it is exposed to air, so deposits near caves and open ground are patchy.

Siltmarram

All three Siltmarram variants have zero hardness and can be broken by hand, but they drop nothing unless they are broken with shears. Shears can also shear a plant: right-clicking an unsheared plant with shears sets its sheared state to true and plays the sheep-shearing sound. A sheared plant does not change its variant again.

An unsheared plant changes over time to match the biome it is in. Each random tick it checks the biome:

A plant that is already in the right variant does not change. Siltmarram that is placed in a biome that does not match its variant gradually changes to the correct one. Shearing a plant before it has converted fixes its look, and breaking it with shears gives back the same variant.

Items

Silt is the base ground block of the group. Silt Flint Ore is the flint source. The three Siltmarram variants differ only in appearance and in the biome they are placed in.
