The Sanctum Locator Compass is a rare, unstackable item added by Jaden's Nether Expansion. It points its holder toward the nearest Sanctum, a structure that is placed in Soul Sand Valley and several other biomes. The compass has no crafting recipe and cannot be bought from villagers; it is found only as loot in the Chapel structure.
Obtaining
The compass has no crafting recipe. It is generated only in the chests of the Chapel structure, through the loot table netherexp:chests/chapel. That table has a single-entry pool that rolls once per chest at a 100% chance, so each Chapel chest contains one Sanctum Locator Compass.

Usage
A new compass starts inactive and unbound. Activating it requires one
Wraithing Flesh as ammunition. The item's tooltip reads "To Activate Requires:" followed by Wraithing Flesh.
Activation and binding
Right-clicking the compass in the hand, or stacking Wraithing Flesh onto a single compass in an inventory slot, activates it. The action consumes one Wraithing Flesh unless the player is in Creative mode. Activation has two outcomes:
- Unbound compass. The game searches for the nearest Sanctum from the player's current position, within 100 chunks. The search does not skip structures the player has already visited. If no Sanctum is in range, the compass does not activate and no Wraithing Flesh is consumed.
- Bound compass. A compass that has already been bound keeps the position of the Sanctum it was bound to. Reactivating it points to that same Sanctum without a new search.
When activation succeeds, the compass stores the Sanctum's position and dimension, is marked as bound, and plays the lodestone lock sound. The tooltip changes to "Bound to a Sanctum". The custom model switches from the inactive texture to the active texture, and the compass ticks with a sound every 40 ticks while it is selected in the hotbar. Activating the compass also grants the "EMF-Raider" advancement.
Active time
An active compass lasts 240 seconds (4 minutes). Its timer decreases by one each second while the compass is in any player inventory slot. When the timer reaches zero, the compass deactivates, switches back to the inactive model, and plays the lodestone place sound. The binding is kept after the timer runs out, so the compass can be reactivated with another Wraithing Flesh at the same Sanctum. An active compass cannot be activated again until it runs out.
Locating Sanctums
Sanctums are placed by concentric rings (distance 32, spread 3, 256 positions) and prefer several biomes, most notably Soul Sand Valley. Their template pieces include an arena, a crypt, street sections, a church centre and a cipher. Soul Sand Valley also hosts the mod's Apparition and Ecto Slab mobs, which spawn there through biome modifiers.
