The Soul Blocks are a family of ten blocks added by Jaden's Nether Expansion. They cover the soul-themed side of the mod: soil and sand variants that wisps and ghosts leave behind, glass and magma blocks that change how entities move and take damage, decorative flowers and particle blocks, and a geyser that launches players upward. Soul Swirls, Suspicious Soul Sand and the Ecto Soul Sand they come from are tied to Soul Sand Valley, the nether biome where the mod's ghostly mobs cluster, so players meet these blocks in its most dangerous ground.
Several of the blocks act on entities that touch them. Soul Swirls grant a temporary speed effect, Soul Glass slows anything that moves through it, Soul Magma burns sprinting players, and the Souled Geyser throws players into the air. Suspicious Soul Sand is the only one that holds loot. The pack's config keeps the mod's default values for these blocks, except that the vanilla Soul Speed enchantment is removed everywhere (removeSoulSpeedEnchantment is set to true), so the Soul Speed effect from Soul Swirls is the only way to get that boost.
Obtaining
Soul Swirls are placed by world generation on the floors and ceilings of Soul Sand Valley. A biome feature setting (soulSwirls, default on) controls whether that generation happens. Soul Magma Block also generates as an ore feature under the soulMagma setting (default on).
Suspicious Soul Sand comes from Ecto Soul Sand. On a random tick, an Ecto Soul Sand block releases a wisp with a 2 percent chance (wispEmergingChance), but only if the block below it has a sturdy top face. The block then turns into Suspicious Soul Sand and carries archaeology loot. The conversion can be disabled with convertsToSuspiciousSoulSand, which is on by default.
Soul Path is made by right-clicking Soul Soil with a shovel. The other blocks are crafted, and the recipes are listed in the table below.

Usage
Soul Swirls
Soul Swirls are floor and ceiling clusters that a living entity activates by moving into them. Entities in the CANT_ACTIVATE_SWIRLS entity tag do not activate them, and neither does a wearer of boots with the vanilla Soul Speed enchantment. On activation the swirl plays a sound and gives the entity Soul Speed for 7 seconds (soulSpeedDuration). If the entity already has Soul Speed, the level rises by one each time, up to Soul Speed III. The swirl stays active for 50 seconds (soulSwirlsCooldown), and entities that step on it during that time get nothing. Its analog signal is 15 while active and 0 otherwise.
A floor-facing Soul Swirls can be bone-mealed when boneMealSoulSwirls is on (default on). Bone meal copies the swirl onto a random horizontal neighbour, but only if that neighbour is air and the block beneath it is a soul sand block.
Soul Glass and Waxen Soul Glass
Soul Glass is a clear glass block, and Waxen Soul Glass is its red variant. Both are in the c:glass_blocks tag, do not block view, pass skylight down, and do not spawn mobs. Entities inside either block have their movement multiplied by soulGlassMovementSlowdown, which is 0.6 by default and in the pack. Entities in the CAN_PHASE_THROUGH_SOUL_GLASS tag pass through the block and can stand on its top. Players who are submerged in soul glass see a screen filter, which is enabled by enableSoulGlassScreenFilter (default on). Waxen Soul Glass emits treacherous flame particles instead of soul fire particles.
Suspicious Soul Sand
Suspicious Soul Sand is a brushable block. Brushing it with a brush reveals loot from the loot table the block was given at creation. Blocks made from Ecto Soul Sand use the biome's wisp archaeology table, with netherexp:archaeology/wisp_arch_default as the fallback.
The block also decays on random ticks. A non-persistent block gains one decay step on each random tick. When it passes suspiciousSoulSandMaxDecay (default 5), it reverts to Soul Sand, which takes about six random ticks. A persistent block only advances on a random tick with 5 percent chance (suspiciousSoulSandDecayChance), so it can remain in place for a long time. Wisp-generated blocks are created non-persistent.
Soul Magma Block
Soul Magma Block is a light-emitting block (light level 3) that hurts entities walking across it. When a sprinting living entity steps on it, the entity takes 2.0 damage from a hot floor (1 heart). Entities with the Soul Speed effect take no damage from it. Walking or standing still on the block does not hurt anyone.
Soul Soil Layer
Soul Soil Layer is a thin layer block with 8 heights. It can only survive on the blocks listed in its soul layer tags, and it needs a shovel to keep its drops. Nine layers craft back into one block of Soul Soil.
Drifting Souls
Drifting Souls is a decorative block that stays only while a soul sand block is beneath it. Right-clicking it with a Wisp Bottle places a copy on a random horizontal neighbour and uses up the bottle. The block sends out drifting soul particles inside a radius and quantity set in the mod config. The particles have no gameplay effect.
Soul Path
Soul Path is a path block made from Soul Soil with a shovel. It is a path block, so when a solid block is placed directly above it, it turns back into Soul Soil.
Soul Torchflower
Soul Torchflower is a flower that can be planted on Soul Soil, nylium and soul crop mutation blocks. It is a suspicious stew flower with Haste for 12 seconds. It also crafts into one Light Blue Dye.
Souled Geyser
Souled Geyser is a hard block (hardness 4) that needs an iron pickaxe or better. Stepping onto it without sneaking launches the entity upward at a vertical speed of 1.2 (geyserHeightVelocity), and the geyser then goes on cooldown for 5 seconds (geyserCooldown). Sneaking onto it does not trigger it, so players can walk across it safely. Falling onto the geyser deals fall damage at a 0.5 multiplier. The block is placed active unless it is placed while sneaking, but the active state only controls the smoke and ash particles, not whether it launches. Outside the biomes in the ash biome tag, it throws ash particles within 20 blocks. A piston cannot push it, since it breaks.
