The Pump-Charge Shotgun is an Epic-rarity pump-action shotgun added by Jaden's Nether Expansion. It is the top tier of the shotgun line, made by upgrading a Shotgun-Fist with the Pump-Charge Upgrade smithing template. Its strength comes from pumping: each pump loads more pellets into the next shot, and a fully pumped gun can detonate itself as an overpump explosion. It is fire resistant, so it can be carried into nether fire without burning, and it has 640 durability.
Obtaining
The Pump-Charge Shotgun is never found on the ground or dropped by mobs. It is made at a smithing table from a Shotgun-Fist, a Spark of Treachery and a Pump-Charge Upgrade template. The template itself is either found in chests or crafted.
Crafting
The smithing recipe takes one Smithing Template, one Shotgun-Fist and one Spark of Treachery and produces one Pump-Charge Shotgun. The Pump-Charge Upgrade template is crafted from seven Bone Blocks, a Smithing Template and a Spark of Treachery, which yields two templates. Each craft therefore nets one extra template.

The template is generated in the Brazier Chests of the Sanctum structure, which spawns in Soul Sand Valley. A Brazier Chest stays locked until a Spark of Treachery is used on it. The template appears in hidden Brazier Chests with a 5.3% chance per chest and in exposed Brazier Chests with a 1.3% chance per chest.

Usage
Right-clicking with the Pump-Charge Shotgun fires it. Sneaking and right-clicking adds one pump instead, up to a maximum of four pumps. Firing resets the pump count to one, so the gun must be pumped again before every stronger shot. The current pump level changes what the next shot does.
Firing
A normal shot fires 10 pellets per pump, so one pump fires 10 pellets, two pumps fire 20, three fire 30 and four fire 40. Pellets leave at a velocity of 1.5 with an inaccuracy of 7, plus 5 for each pump, so higher pump levels spread the shot wider. The base cooldown is 15 ticks. Each shot costs 1 durability.
The shooter is pushed backward by self-recoil. Base self-recoil is 0.35, increased by 0.1 per pump. If a living entity is within 2.5 blocks of the shooter's line of sight, a point-blank bonus of 0.45 is added, so firing at close range pushes the shooter much further.
Each shot uses one shotgun shell from the inventory. The gun accepts any item in the netherexp:shotgun_shells tag: the standard Shotgun Shell, the Slug Shotgun Shell, the Phasmo Shotgun Shell and the Blank Shotgun Shell. Slug shells deal block damage with a blast strength of 1.0. Blank shells skip the cooldown penalty of Counterforce.
Overpump
At four pumps the gun is overpumped, and the next shot becomes an explosion instead of a volley. An alarm sounds from the gun while it is overpumped. The explosion has a power of 4, does not break blocks, and damages entities nearby. The shooter takes 10 damage from a shotgun explosion, which bypasses armor, and is pushed backward by 1.5. The overpump shot costs 5 durability and sets an 80-tick cooldown. Its pump count resets to one afterwards.
Killing ten or more living entities within 5 blocks of an overpump explosion grants the advancement that the Pump-Charge Shotgun triggers.
Counterforce
Counterforce is the enchantment that changes shots fired while airborne. It applies when the shooter is not on the ground and has no fall distance, or is in a fluid. The shot then pushes the shooter forward instead of backward, which allows a shot to be used as a dash.
- A normal shot adds 30 ticks to the cooldown unless the shell is a blank, and grants 20 ticks of invulnerability.
- An overpump explosion adds 100 ticks to the cooldown unless the shell is a blank, and cancels the 10 self-damage. It does not grant invulnerability.
Enchantments
The Pump-Charge Shotgun accepts the shotgun enchantments Recoil, Volley, Longshot, Counterforce and Phantasm Hull, and it also accepts Quick Charge. Repairs use netherite scrap.
- Volley adds 2 pellets per pump for each level and adds 10 ticks to the cooldown for each level.
- Quick Charge removes 2 pellets per pump for each level and removes 4 ticks from the cooldown for each level. It has no effect when Volley is present.
- Recoil adds 0.1 to self-recoil for each level.
