Jaden's Nether Expansion is a mod that overhauls the Nether dimension and adds a large body of nether-themed content to it. It adds six hostile or semi-hostile mobs, several projectile and ambient entities, a shotgun-style firearm line, an antidote and immunity potion system, a Claret wood set and roughly 250 block entries. The mod requires the Elysium API and Lodestone libraries.
In Fear Nightfall the mod supplies much of the Nether's horror content. Apparitions, Vessels, Ecto Slabs and Stampedes spawn in Soul Sand Valley, and the Betrayed effect causes most mobs to ignore a player who has it. The Nether has a fixed time of 18000 ticks, so it does not have a day cycle.

Overview
The mod changes the Nether and adds no new dimension. The Nether's biome source and noise settings are replaced by built-in server data packs, so the dimension's terrain, biome mix and features are generated by the mod. Its new blocks, items, mobs and effects are registered alongside these changes. The mod also replaces a number of client-side visuals, including fog, heat distortion, portal and brewing stand particles, and it adds custom sounds and textures.
The mod's items are sorted into ten creative tabs named after Nether regions, such as Grieving Grove, Plume Bowels, Quartz Chasm, Exhaust Mire and Soul Sand Valley, plus a Mod Compat tab. About 60 further items are added to existing vanilla tabs.
The mod checks at runtime for optional integrations with Amplified Nether, Caverns and Chasms, Gardens of the Dead, Oreganized, Rubinated Nether and Supplementaries. With Gardens of the Dead, the mod adds blight swirls and redirects the hat of some huge fungi to shroomblight. With Caverns and Chasms, the mod adds necromium items to the silver tags and a treacherous brazier.
Content
Mobs
- Apparition is a fire-immune monster that possesses other mobs and Gargoyle Statues. It spawns in Soul Sand Valley.
- Vessel is a skeleton-type ranged monster that fires volleys of bullets. It is afraid of piglins and spawns in Soul Sand Valley.
- Ecto Slab is a fire-immune monster that stacks, burrows and can be petrified into a block.
- Banshee is a fire-immune monster that stuns its targets and teleports after hitting them.
- Stampede is a fire-immune, rideable monster that can be befriended with roasted bones.
- Carcass is a non-hostile reanimating corpse. A False Carcass can be made by waxing a skeleton with treacherous wax.
- Wisp is a passive ambient entity that emerges from ecto soul sand and can be bottled as a Will O' Wisp.
Weapons and ammunition
- Pump-Charge Shotgun is the mod's main firearm. The Shotgun-Fist and Pump-Charge variants are added with smithing templates.
- Phasmo Shards and Arrows are ammunition for the shotgun line and for bows.
- Treacherous Flame is used to open and refill brazier chests.
- Antidotes are potions that cancel status effects.
Blocks
- Soul Slate and Soul Blocks form the mod's main building family, with slabs, stairs, walls and etched variants.
- Claret Wood is a complete wood set with a stripped stem and hyphae.
- Nether Brick and Netherrack Variants and Stained Redstone Lamps extend the Nether's building blocks.
- Black Ice forms in the Nether's glacier areas and on lava.
- Sorrowsquash and Sorroweed, Cerebrage and Stacked Bones are plant and bone blocks that grow or stack in the Nether.
- Skull Blocks and Candles and Gargoyle Statues are decorative blocks that tie into the horror theme.
- Silt and Siltmarram and Pyroclast and Basalt Blocks are terrain blocks that form along shores and in the basalt areas.
- Netherite Plating and Grates are block variants that take part in the mod's rusting mechanics.
- Fossil Fuel and Fossil Ore are fuel and ore blocks produced by skeleton deaths.
- Nether Expansion Plants and Fungi and Nether Expansion Miscellaneous list the rest of the block entries.
- Sanctum Compass locates the mod's Sanctums.
Food and decoration
- Hogham is the meat that replaces porkchops dropped by hoglins.
- Armor Trims and Pottery Sherds adds the Rift, Spirit and Valor armor trims and seven pottery sherds.
- Paintings and Music Discs add two paintings and two jukebox songs.
Biomes and terrain
- Black Ice Glaciers is a biome within Soul Sand Valley.
- Exhaust Mire is added to the Nether's biome tags. The vanilla biomes Nether Wastes, Crimson Forest, Warped Forest, Basalt Deltas and Soul Sand Valley keep their identity, with changed features and fog.
- The mod's biome source mixes every nether biome from installed mods into the dimension. See the Mechanics section below.
Structures
- Chapel and Sanctum: Chapels are underground structures. Sanctums are placed in concentric rings in Soul Sand Valley.
- Devil's Misfortune is an underground structure.
- Mega Fossils are large fossil structures, with a campsite variant.
Effects and enchantments
- Nether Expansion Effects and Enchantments lists the mod's 28 mob effects and its five new enchantments.
Mechanics
Nether terrain
The Nether uses the Elysium mosaic biome source, which picks biomes from the #minecraft:is_nether tag, so biomes from other installed mods join the Nether automatically. The dimension's minimum build height is -32, its height is 288 and its fixed time is 18000 ticks. Every nether surface gets a bedrock floor and roof five blocks deep, silt shorelines and a black ice glacier surface rule. Vanilla noodle caves are removed. Nether caves carve lava below Y 31 and cave air above it, unless Amplified Nether is installed. The large Ancient Debris feature is replaced with a height range of 168 to 184. Crimson Forest, Nether Wastes, Soul Sand Valley and Warped Forest have a brighter fog.
Soul Sand Valley
Soul Sand Valley hosts Apparitions, Ecto Slabs, Stampedes and Vessels through biome spawn entries. Strays there use the monster spawn rules, so they can spawn at any light level. The valley also contains the Sanctum structures, mega fossils, ecto soul sand and soul swirls.
Apparitions and possession
Apparitions can possess mobs and Gargoyle Statues. Possession has a cooldown of 300 ticks. A possessed mob ignores soul sand slowing and is treated as undead. When a possessed mob dies, it can release an Apparition, and on Hard difficulty that chance is doubled. An Apparition can be salted, exorcised with a water bottle, or leashed to calm it. It drops two wisps by default.
Vessels
A Vessel fires 16 to 20 bullets per attack. It is tagged as a skeleton.
Ecto Slabs
Ecto Slabs stack up to four high. Each stack adds 0.05 movement speed up to a cap of 0.6, 2 attack damage with no cap, 0.15 knockback resistance and 0.05 jump strength. An Ecto Slab burrows and emerges with a burst that deals double damage. Naturally generated petrified Ecto Slabs can be shattered by explosions or with a shovel. A ghast tear petrifies an Ecto Slab, and petrifying one also petrifies nearby soul swirls.
Banshees
A Banshee's hit stuns its target for 100 ticks. Banshees attack every 40 ticks and teleport after hitting. Their stun can be redirected to nearby Will O' Wisps. Banshees are immune to fall damage.
Stampedes
A Stampede can be ridden. It is befriended by feeding it roasted bones. It sheds Stridite with a 10% chance and drops 1 to 5 Stridite. A Stampede cannot run over tagged entities. The camera's distance is multiplied by 1.7 while a player rides it.
Wisps and Will O' Wisps
Wisps emerge from ecto soul sand and can be bottled. A Will O' Wisp accelerates from 0.1 to 16 blocks per second over five seconds. A Will O' Wisp has a stack size of 64.
Shotguns
Shotgun explosions use a dedicated damage type that bypasses armor. Shotgun-Fist fires 25 bullets with a cooldown of 40 ticks. Pump-Charge fires 10 bullets with a cooldown of 15 ticks. Each shot pushes the shooter back, and a shot at a target within 2.5 blocks gets a point-blank bonus. Shotgun shells come as regular, slug, phasmo and blank types. The five shotgun enchantments are Phantasm Hull, Recoil, Volley, Longshot and Counterforce. The screen shakes when a shotgun is fired, and the effect can be turned off in the config.
Antidotes and immunity
An antidote is a potion made with an Elysium brewing recipe. A thrown grenade antidote creates a cloud that applies the antidote's effect. An immunity effect cancels the matching effect while it is active, and each immunity is consumed after 600 ticks. Oozing, Wind Charged and Weaving are deterrent effects. They pulse every 30 ticks and affect entities within 8 blocks times the effect's level that carry the matching immunity. Potions in the common potion tag stack to 16.
Betrayed and the Cierge of Treachery
The Betrayed effect cannot be cured. Most mobs stop targeting a player who has it, except for mobs listed in a tag. While a player has Betrayed, blocks they place become Haze Blocks, and placing a block does not consume it from the player's inventory. The Cierge of Treachery is a defense objective with a cooldown of 1800 ticks. Completing a defense gives Betrayed to nearby players.
Brazier chests
A brazier chest stays locked until a Treacherous Flame is used on it. Once opened, its flame refills on a 3600-tick cooldown.
Soul Speed
The mod's Soul Speed effect is applied by soul swirls, which have a cooldown of 50 ticks. It takes over the role of the vanilla Soul Speed enchantment, which is disabled by default.
Black ice and ectoplasm
Thin black ice breaks when a player walks on it, with a chance of 0.015. The chance is 0.2 while sprinting and 0.4 near other broken ice. Black ice freezes creatures after 400 ticks. Ectoplasm applies freezing and rusts netherite.
Plants, bones and fossils
Sorrowsquash grows with a chance of 0.2. It squashes entities that fall onto it, with a damage multiplier of 1.5 and a maximum of 30 damage. Cerebrage grows with a chance of 0.1 and drops three to six cerebrage seeds. Wraithing Lesion grows with a chance of 0.1. When a skeleton dies on soul soil, the soil becomes fossil ore with a chance of 0.02. A Sculk Grinder gives 450 experience.
Changes to vanilla
- The Nether's terrain, biome source, noise settings and dimension type are replaced.
- Nether portals play the mod's own sounds and particles instead of the vanilla ones, and a portal glow entity appears when a portal is created or activated.
- Brewing stands show the mod's particles.
- Fire placed on a treacherous fire base becomes treacherous fire.
- Shovels turn soul soil and crimson nylium into the mod's path blocks, and bone meal on a wart block places a Nether Wart Beard.
- Skeletons that die on soul soil convert the ground to fossil ore.
- Projectiles pass through Wisps and Apparitions. Piercing arrows and Phantasm Hull are exempt.
- Crossbows accept Black Icicle as ammunition.
- Mobs with the Betrayed effect cannot be targeted by most other mobs, and placed items are not consumed while a player has Betrayed.
- Claret wood is removed as furnace fuel, and fossil fuel is added with a burn time of 1600.
- Red nether bricks and magma blocks use different crafting recipes.
- Hoglins and bastion chests drop Hogham instead of porkchop, and ruined portal chests can contain a Rift armor trim template.
In Fear Nightfall
- Five recipes for items that do not exist in the mod are disabled, and one broken advancement parent is fixed.
- Loot from the mod reaches the chests that the pack maps to it.
- Brazier chests cannot be made per-player by Lootr. They are shared and first come, first served.
- The pack's modded-biome coverage uses hand-picked matches for Nether structures.
