Paintings

Paintings in Fear Nightfall are wall decorations. The pack adds 35 painting variants, which come from five mods, Handcrafted (28), Butchery (2), Jaden's Nether Expansion (1), Supplementaries (2) and the Lodestone library (2). Each variant is a fixed image with a fixed size, from 1×1 blocks up to 4×4. A player places them to decorate houses, bases and horror-themed interiors, and the variant that appears depends on the free wall space.

Only four of the 35 can be placed by the vanilla painting item. Handcrafted's 28 variants need the Fancy Painting item. The remaining three, the Supplementaries Jar and the two Lodestone entries, are in neither placement tag, so no item in the pack can choose them.

The pack makes no changes of its own to paintings, and the pack's change log has no painting entries.

Placement

Vanilla painting item

The vanilla painting item chooses a variant from the minecraft:placeable tag. Butchery adds its two variants to the tag, Jaden's Nether Expansion adds its House, and Supplementaries adds Bombs. The vanilla rules for free wall space apply: a painting needs an open area of its own size in front of a solid wall, so a 4×2 variant needs a wall at least that wide and tall. The Butchery variants and the House are the only modded paintings with a 4×2 footprint.

Fancy Painting

The Fancy Painting item places one of the 28 Handcrafted variants. It is crafted from a vanilla painting and a gold ingot, and it drops a Fancy Painting when broken. The variant rules, the preference for large variants, and the save behaviour are on the Fancy Painting page.

Not placeable

The Supplementaries Jar and the two Lodestone entries are not in any placement tag. Neither the vanilla painting item nor the Fancy Painting item can choose them, so they never appear in the world through normal play.

Gallery

The sizes below are width by height in blocks. Handcrafted's variant names are the in-game titles from the language file. Flower in the Darkness and Love Flowers have no title entry, so the game shows their raw translation key. Safari Sunset appears twice in the language file, once for the large variant and once for the small one.

Where paintings are found

Paintings are not a loot item of their own. They turn up as vanilla paintings in a few generated structures and chests, and the pages list them with the rest of each structure's contents. Villages&Pillages adds paintings to an attic chest. Structory Outposts adds them to the nomad outpost. The Vindicator Butcher's House has one painting inside. Butchery's Butcher Shop Decorations also include paintings among its decorative blocks, and Picture Frames are a separate decorative block that shows its own pictures.

Related decoration

Paintings are the wall-hanging part of a larger decoration system. Beautify adds Picture Frames that show a motive chosen at random. Hexerei's Book of Shadows page covers the Book Canvas, a painting-style item that copies a section of a painting from the Book of Colors. It does not place a wall painting.

Behaviour and configuration

• Carry On. The pack's Carry On configuration lists the vanilla minecraft:painting entity as forbidden. Vanilla paintings cannot be picked up with Carry On. The Fancy Painting entity is not on that list.
• Fast Paintings. The Fast Paintings mod is installed. Its nbt_drop option, which keeps a painting's data when it drops, is set to OFF in the pack.
• Microfunny. The Lodestone entries have no title in the language file, so their names here are the variant ids. The entry named Microfunny is 1×1 and points at the Lefunny texture. The mod ships no texture of its own for it, so it displays the same picture as the 4×4 Lefunny.
