The Fancy Painting is a decorative hanging item added by the Handcrafted mod. It places a painting on a wall, like the vanilla painting, but draws its artwork from 28 painting variants that the mod ships in its own handcrafted:paintings painting tag. The item is stackable to 64.

Obtaining

Fancy Paintings are not found in the world. Handcrafted does not add them to any loot table, and no villager or wandering trader sells them. The only source is crafting.

Crafting

A Fancy Painting is made from one vanilla painting and one gold ingot in a shapeless crafting recipe. The recipe is shown below.

Usage

Right-clicking the face of a block places the painting on the adjacent air space, in the direction of the clicked face. Placement follows these rules:

• Variant selection. The item picks a random variant from the 28 variants in the handcrafted:paintings tag that fit the wall. If several variants fit, only the largest-area variants are kept, so a wall with room for a large variant will receive one.
• Failed placement. If no variant fits, placement fails and the item is not consumed. A player who is not permitted to build in the target space cannot place the item there.
• Breaking. Breaking a placed Fancy Painting drops a Fancy Painting item. It does not drop a vanilla painting.
• Pick block. Using pick block on a placed painting gives a Fancy Painting item.

The placed entity is a subclass of the vanilla painting entity, so it is removed when the wall behind it is removed, as a vanilla painting is. Its variant is saved to the world by name and is restored only from the handcrafted namespace. A variant saved under a name from another namespace cannot be restored when the world is reloaded.
