Chairs and Stools are seating blocks added by two mods. Handcrafted adds a chair in each of 11 wood types. Refurbished Furniture adds a chair in each of 10 wood types and a stool in each of 16 dye colours. Both sets of chairs use the same display names, so the game holds two separate blocks called Oak Chair, one from each mod. Right-clicking a chair or stool seats the player on an invisible seat entity. Neither mod adds these blocks to worldgen, loot tables, mob drops or villager trades, so they come only from crafting.
Obtaining
Every chair and stool is crafted. Handcrafted chairs use a normal crafting grid. Refurbished chairs and all refurbished stools are made at a workbench, which needs power from an electricity network to work.

Workbench · WorkbenchHandcrafted chairs take a wooden slab, two planks of the same wood and two sticks, and yield two chairs per craft. A refurbished chair takes four planks of its wood type and yields one chair. A refurbished stool takes three planks (from the set of planks the recipe accepts), eight wheat, one white wool and one dye, and yields one stool.
Dyeing stools
A stool can be recoloured in a crafting grid. Crafting a stool of another colour with the dye for the new colour produces that colour of stool, so the 16 stool colours can be converted into one another. The recipe does not need a workbench, so recolouring needs only the stool and the dye.
Usage
Sitting
A chair or stool seats the player when right-clicked with an empty hand. The seat is an invisible entity that the player rides. It is removed when the passenger dismounts or the block stops being a valid seat. When the player dismounts, the game looks for a safe free block on the four sides of the seat and places the player there.
Each type of seat differs in height and in how far the view can turn:
- Handcrafted chairs lock the rider's rotation to within 105 degrees of the chair's facing direction.
- Refurbished chairs raise the rider by 10 pixels (0.625 blocks). The rider's rotation is clamped to within 120 degrees of the seat direction.
- Refurbished stools raise the rider by 8 pixels (0.5 blocks) and do not lock the rider's rotation. The rider can turn freely.
Tucking refurbished chairs
A refurbished chair can be tucked under the table or desk directly in front of it. Crouch and right-click the chair to tuck it, and do the same again to untuck it. Tucking moves the chair's model half a block toward the table or desk and plays the chair-slide sound. A chair can only be tucked when the block in front is in the refurbished_furniture:tuckable block tag. The tag contains the refurbished table and desk of each of the 10 wood types, so tucking works only in front of those blocks. A tucked chair cannot be sat on. If the table or desk is removed, the chair untucks automatically.
Cushions on handcrafted chairs
Handcrafted chairs accept an optional cushion. Right-clicking a chair with a cushion adds it, and shift-right-clicking removes it. Placing a different cushion on a chair that already has one returns the old cushion to the player, and breaking the chair drops its cushion. A cushioned chair can still be sat on.
Mining
Chairs and stools are mined with an axe. Their hardness and blast resistance are listed in the table below.
Mobs
Handcrafted chairs are not pathable, so mobs do not path through them.
Items
- Handcrafted chairs exist in 11 wood types: Acacia, Bamboo, Birch, Cherry, Crimson, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, Oak, Spruce and Warped. Refurbished chairs exist in the same wood types without Bamboo.
- Refurbished stools exist in 16 colours: White, Orange, Magenta, Light Blue, Yellow, Lime, Pink, Gray, Light Gray, Cyan, Purple, Blue, Brown, Green, Red and Black. They are members of the stool, general and bedroom item tags.
- Oak through Warped chairs exist once in each mod, so the same wood type gives two blocks with the same display name. Both are separate items with different ids and item tags.
Tips
- Use a stool when you need a seat without a fixed facing, since the rider can turn freely.
- Tuck a refurbished chair under a table or desk with crouch to keep it out of the way of walking space.
- Keep a power source running for the workbench that makes refurbished chairs and stools, or the crafting will not work.
