Electricity is the home power network added by the Refurbished Furniture mod. Electricity generators burn furnace fuel, and a Wrench links them to the appliances they supply. Many of the mod's appliances do nothing without power, including the workbench, so a player builds a generator early. The network is self-contained. It does not expose Forge Energy or other energy capabilities, so it does not connect to power mods such as Create or Mekanism.

Each generator and switch comes in a light and a dark variant. The two variants have the same stats; the dark variant is made by adding black dye to the light one.

Obtaining

The four electricity blocks are the Light and Dark Electricity Generator and the Light and Dark Lightswitch. None of them generate in the world, drop from mobs or appear in chest loot, so they must be crafted.

Crafting

The generator's recipe uses a Blast Furnace as an ingredient, so the Blast Furnace must be crafted first. The lightswitch is made at the workbench. The workbench needs power, so a generator must be placed and linked before the workbench can craft anything.

Usage

Generators

A generator holds one fuel item in a single slot. Each fuel item it burns gives power units equal to the fuel's burn time multiplied by the server's fuel-to-power ratio, which defaults to 16. Coal burns for 1,600 ticks in vanilla, so one coal gives 25,600 power units. Power is never free by default: the config options for free generator power and for powering everything are both off.

Links are made with the Wrench, and the Wrench cancels normal block interaction while it is held. A generator's powered area is a box with a radius of 80 blocks by default. The following limits apply to the network:

Limit Value
Powered area radius of a generator 80 blocks (default)
Links per node 6
Links per generator 12
Maximum length of one link 512 blocks (hard-coded)
Nodes per network 64

A link longer than 512 blocks is rejected whatever the powered area radius is. The per-node and per-generator link limits are config values, and the link length is fixed in the code.

Devices that need power are the workbench, freezer, microwave, stove, toaster, Recycle Bin, television, computer, doorbell, ceiling fan, ceiling light, lightswitch and range hood. An unpowered device stops working until it is linked to a running generator.

Lightswitches

Using a lightswitch with an empty hand toggles its on or off state. A switch can be attached to a floor, a wall or a ceiling. Power passes through a switch only while it is on. A device that is reached only through an off switch loses power, so a single lightswitch can cut a room's appliances from the generator.

A lightswitch outputs a redstone comparator signal of 1 while it is on and 0 while it is off.

Smart Home and ceiling fans

The computer runs a Smart Home app that toggles the powered devices on its own network. Only devices that share the network can be controlled from the app.

A powered ceiling fan damages living entities in the box beneath its blades. Each tick, an entity in that box takes 0.5 damage, using the ceiling fan damage type. Players and mobs are both affected, and the death message is "sliced to death by a ceiling fan". A fan left running in a dark house is a hazard, so a fan on a lightswitch can be switched off when the room is empty.

Items

Each block is listed below. The light and dark variants are interchangeable in every power role.

  • Light Electricity Generator is the first source of power and is crafted from iron and redstone.
  • Dark Electricity Generator is the same block in a dark finish, made from the light generator and black dye.
  • Light Lightswitch toggles power through the network and sends a comparator signal.
  • Dark Lightswitch is the dark finish of the light lightswitch.
