The Recycle Bin is a powered block added by Refurbished Furniture. It destroys the items placed in it and converts each one into experience points, which the player withdraws from the bin's screen. Within the mod, it is the only block that grants experience. It has a stack size of 64 as an item, a hardness of 2.5 and a blast resistance of 2.5, and it must be mined with a pickaxe that is at least stone-tier.

The bin does nothing without electricity. It must be linked to a running electricity network and receive power to process items.

Obtaining

The Recycle Bin is obtained by crafting it at a workbench. The workbench must itself be powered to use its constructing recipes.

Usage

Input and processing

Right-clicking the bin opens its screen, which has three input slots. Every slot accepts any item, and the bin exposes all three slots on every face, so automation such as hoppers can insert items from any side. The bin has no output slots, and it never returns items to the player or to any other container.

Processing only runs while the bin is powered and enabled, it holds at least one item, and its experience has not reached the cap (see below). Each cycle takes 10 ticks (half a second) by default and consumes one item from the first non-empty input slot. The items are destroyed rather than converted into other items. A full stack of 64 items takes 640 ticks (32 seconds) to process.

Experience

Each recycled item adds 0.05 experience points by default. Experience is calculated from the total number of recycled items and then truncated to whole points, so a bin with 19 recycled items holds no experience yet. Twenty items are needed for the first point.

The bin's stored experience is capped at the total experience of 5 levels by default. Using the vanilla experience formula, 5 levels is 55 points, which is reached after 1,100 items. When the cap is reached, the bin stops processing and any remaining items stay in its slots until the experience is withdrawn. Withdrawing from the screen spawns all stored points as a single experience orb and resets the stored count to zero.

Power and control

The bin has an enabled state that is separate from its power. The Smart Home app on a computer that shares the same electricity network can toggle the enabled state of the bin. A disabled bin does not process items, but it keeps its items and any stored experience.

Configuration

The server config controls three values for the bin:

  • processingTime: ticks per item (default 10, minimum 1)
  • experiencePerItem: experience points per item (default 0.05)
  • maximumExperienceLevels: experience level cap (default 5, range 1 to 100)
