The Workbench is a powered crafting block added by the Refurbished Furniture mod. It crafts furniture items from its own constructing list, drawing the materials from its inventory, from containers placed against its sides, and from the inventory of the player who has it open. It cannot craft at all without electricity, so it is usually one of the first machines a player connects to a generator. The block is mined with an axe.
Obtaining
The workbench is made in a crafting table and is not a block the player finds in the world.
Crafting
The recipe uses slabs, planks, a stonecutter, a block of redstone and an iron ingot. The slab and plank slots accept any of their alternatives (about 70 slab items and about 84 plank items), so the oak versions are not required. The counts are shown in the grid above.
Usage
Electricity
The workbench is an Electricity module. It is powered only when a generator's network reaches it, and the power check is made each time a craft is attempted, so an unpowered workbench refuses every recipe. Links are made with the Wrench, and the hard-coded link limit is 512 blocks. Each generator can link up to 12 nodes, and a network holds up to 64 nodes. A generator burns furnace fuel, and each unit of burn time becomes 16 power units by default.
Materials and storage
Each craft takes its materials from four sources, searched in this order:
- the workbench's own 12-slot inventory;
- the containers on its four horizontal sides, which can be chests (double chests are counted as one container), barrels, or any other container that allows items to be removed;
- the player's own inventory, while that player has the workbench open.
The screen has a neighbour-container toggle. It is on by default and controls whether the four side containers are searched. When it is off, only the workbench's inventory and the player's inventory are used. Damaged items are never consumed as materials. The counts shown in the screen refresh about every four ticks while the workbench is open.
A craft is available only when the full material list can be met from these sources. Materials are removed from the containers when the craft is completed. Only one player can use a workbench at a time; a second player who clicks it gets no screen.
Recipes
The constructing list holds roughly 60 furniture recipes. These are separate from vanilla crafting and do not appear in the vanilla recipe book. When the JEI mod is installed, they are listed in its Workbench constructing category.
Tips
- Place a chest against one side of the workbench and keep the crafting materials in it. The workbench then crafts from that chest without the player needing the materials in their own inventory.
- Turn the neighbour-container toggle off if a chest beside the workbench holds items that should not be used for crafting.
- Check the electricity network before a craft fails. A workbench that is not linked will not craft, even when every material is present.
