Hedges, lattice fences and stepping stones are decorative outdoor blocks added by Refurbished Furniture. The set has 34 blocks in three families: 9 hedges, 10 lattice fences with 10 matching lattice fence gates, and 5 stepping stones. None of them generate in the world, so every block is placed by the player.

Hedges and lattice fences connect to neighbouring blocks as they are placed, and mobs cannot pathfind through either of them.

Obtaining

The blocks are not found in structures, chests, mob drops, villager trades or wandering trader trades. They are made only at the Workbench, which needs electricity from the power network to craft. Each recipe is a constructing recipe on the workbench's list.

The recipe pattern for each family is:

  • Hedges take 6 matching leaves (for example oak leaves or azalea leaves) and make 1 hedge. There is no crimson or warped hedge.
  • Lattice fences take 4 planks and 4 sticks and make 1 lattice fence. The 10 wood types are oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, crimson and warped.
  • Lattice fence gates take 2 planks and 4 sticks and make 1 lattice fence gate, using the same 10 wood types.
  • Stepping stones take 1 base stone and make 1 stepping stone. The five bases are stone, granite, diorite, andesite and deepslate.

All 34 blocks stack to 64 in a slot.

Usage

Hedges

A hedge is a post 4/16 of a block wide that is 1 block tall. Its collision box is 1.5 blocks tall, so a player cannot jump over a hedge. A hedge connects to a neighbouring block on a side when that side has a sturdy face, when the neighbour is another hedge, or when the neighbour is any leaves block. Hedges can be waterlogged.

Hedges are mined with a hoe. Oak hedges have a hardness of 0.5, and the other eight hedges have a hardness of 0.25.

Lattice fences and gates

A lattice fence is a 2/16-block-wide post with arms, 1 block tall, and it has a 1.5-block collision box in the same way as a hedge. It connects to sturdy faces, to other lattice fences, and to lattice fence gates on the side where the gate allows a connection. Lattice fences and gates have a hardness of 2 and are mined with an axe.

Lattice fence gates extend the vanilla fence gate class, so they open and close the same way vanilla gates do. The lattice fence and gate are in the minecraft:fences and minecraft:fence_gates tags, so other mods that treat fences specially will see them.

Stepping stones

A stepping stone is a flat plate 1/16 of a block tall that covers the full footprint of its block. Players walk over it without any extra height. Each stone has a horizontal facing property (north, south, east or west). Stepping stones have a hardness of 1.5 and are mined with a pickaxe. They are in the minecraft:combination_step_sound_blocks tag, which gives them the step sound of those blocks.

Pathfinding and light

Hedges and lattice fences cannot be pathed through by mobs. Both families reduce light passing through them by 1 level.

Tips

  • Use hedges and lattice fences together to make a boundary, and place a lattice fence gate at the opening where you want a path through.
  • Place stepping stones on a path to mark a walkway without blocking it.
  • Azalea hedges need azalea leaves, so farm or collect them before crafting that hedge.
