The Frying Pan is a cooking block added by Refurbished Furniture. It holds one food item at a time and can only be placed on top of a stove, which supplies its heat. Food on the pan cooks on one side, then has to be turned with a Spatula before the second side cooks. The block is mined with a pickaxe, has a hardness of 2 and a blast resistance of 2, and its item stacks to 64.
The frying pan is a cooking appliance that depends on the electricity network. The stove that heats it is a powered device, so an unpowered stove leaves the pan cold. See Electricity for how the network is built.
Obtaining
The frying pan is made at a workbench. The workbench is a powered device, and the frying pan recipe is on its constructing list. No other source is recorded for the frying pan.
Crafting
Workbench · WorkbenchThe recipe uses iron ingots, leather and black dye, all of which the workbench can draw from its own inventory or from adjacent containers.
Usage
Placement and heat
The frying pan can only be placed when the block directly below it is a stove, and a stove is the only block that heats it. The pan's lit state follows the stove: it is lit while the stove is lit, and it only cooks while the stove is processing food. An empty lit pan gives off steam particles.
A range hood placed above the pan does not change cooking. When it is powered, it only makes the steam rise faster.
Adding and removing food
- Right-clicking an empty pan with a stack of items places one item from the stack on the pan. In survival mode that item is taken from the held stack. In creative mode the stack is not reduced.
- Any item can be placed on the pan, but only items with a matching recipe cook. Other items sit on the pan unchanged.
- Right-clicking with an empty hand removes the food, which drops as an item above the pan.
- Right-clicking a pan that already holds food with any item removes the food and does not use up the held item.
- Right-clicking with a Spatula flips the food when a flip is due. At any other time it removes the food instead, so using the spatula too early drops raw food on the ground.
Cooking and flipping
Each frying pan recipe takes 400 ticks (20 seconds) in total, which is 200 ticks for each side. When the first side finishes, the food stops cooking and waits. A right-click with a spatula flips it, and the second side then cooks. When the second side finishes, the input is replaced by the result. If the input item leaves a crafting remainder, that remainder drops above the pan.
The frying pan does not flip food by itself. Cooking stops at the flip point until a spatula is used.
Recipes
The mod adds three frying pan recipes, each with a 400-tick cooking time:
- Sweet Berries produce
Sweet Berry Jam. - Glow Berries produce
Glow Berry Jam.
Cheese Sandwich produces
Grilled Cheese.
When no frying pan recipe matches, the pan falls back to the vanilla campfire cooking recipes, using each campfire recipe's own cooking time. This fallback is controlled by the server config option inheritCampfireRecipes, which is on by default. The grill uses the same spatula flip and the same campfire fallback.
Limitations
Placing the frying pan on Farmer's Delight grills is not implemented. The source code marks it as a to-do.
Tips
- Wait for the first side to finish before using the spatula. The pan shows smoke above the food once it is ready to flip.
- Keep the stove powered. Because the stove is a powered device, an unpowered stove does not heat the pan.
