Computer and Television

Computer and Television
Mod	Refurbished Furniture
Items	3

The Computer and the Television are two powered furniture blocks added by Refurbished Furniture. The Computer runs four small programs, two of which are functional. The Television shows a set of channels with screens and sounds, and the player changes them with a handheld Television Remote. Both need an electricity network to work, so they are most useful once a player has set up a generator and wiring. In Fear Nightfall the Television also has a horror sequence that starts during a thunderstorm.

Obtaining

Neither block generates in the world. The mod adds no chest loot and no villager trades for them, so they must be crafted. Each one is made at a Workbench, which only crafts while it is powered. The Television Remote is crafted from common materials and is needed to change channels. Ingredient counts are listed in the recipe grids below.

Usage

Power

Both blocks are powered devices on the electricity network. Power is delivered by linking a generator and the device with a Wrench, and an unpowered Television or Computer does nothing. The block state powered tracks this. A Television without power produces no sound, and its channel cannot be changed. See Electricity for link limits and fuel use.

Television

The Television starts on the LoFi Beat channel when placed. Its sound is audible within 16 blocks. Using a Television Remote on the front face of a powered Television within 16 blocks of the player switches the channel.

Each change shows static for 5 to 19 ticks, then the Television picks a new channel at random from the nine viewable channels. The channel shown before the last change is excluded from the choice. The viewable channels are:

• Heart Screensaver
• High Pitch Tone (colour test)
• Dance Beat
• News Channel
• Bird Chirping to Song
• LoFi Beat
• Piano Music
• Retro Arcade Song
• Silly Face

The High Pitch Tone channel has a selection weight of 1, while most other channels have a weight of 10, so it is rarely chosen at random.

Thunderstorm sequence

When the server config option for a loose signal is on (the default), a thunderstorm interrupts a powered Television:

1. The screen switches to the High Pitch Tone channel, and every channel change made with the remote during the storm also lands on it.
2. After about 60 seconds (1200 ticks) on that channel, the screen switches to a hidden channel.
3. About 5 seconds later the screen switches to black noise, which plays at a lower pitch, and the channel is locked. The remote can no longer change it.

When the storm ends and the Television is still powered, it returns to the channel it was showing before the storm and the lock is removed.

Computer

The Computer shows a boot screen and then a menu of four programs. Two are functional. The Marketplace and Coin Miner programs are stubs that show "Coming Soon!" and have no other function.

• Paddle Ball is a pong-style game. A player can play against the computer or against another player, and the match search for a second player requires a dedicated server. The program shows "Must be playing on a server" when that requirement is not met.
• Smart Home (HomeControl) switches every powered device on the same electricity network on or off with its "Toggle On" and "Toggle Off" buttons. A device is only found if it is connected to the same network as the Computer. Devices renamed in an anvil before they are placed are easier to identify in the list.
